So, a little background, I’m getting married in Savannah in June. Savannah is known for it’s squares. I’m trying to theme my wedding around the fact that it’s in Savannah. Instead of table numbers, I’m doing the names of some of the squares in Savannah. I want to make signs like the ones they actually use. Any ideas of a way I can possibly make these with maybe chalkboard paint or something? How can I get that shape? I should be able to find that fleur de lis thing on the top, but just wanted to see if you creative bees could help!

if you have access to a jigsaw it’s easy to make that shape. then you can spray paint the wood black and use paint, or spray paint it with chalkboard paint for something less permanent.

@kitzy:That’s a great idea, and maybe I can convince my dad to make these since he just recently lost his job as a builder (that business is in REALLLLLY bad shape) and he needs something to fill his time!

I don’t have any recommendations for you, but that is a really cute idea for table names 🙂

We are doing a similar thing and having our tables named after our favorite places on Martha’s Vineyard. The table “names” will be a photo of the two of us at that location (like in front of the sign so that it’s obvious where we are). We are collecting picture frames for the tables to put the photos in and then guests will have to match their escort card to the name they see in the picture. I thought it’d be a fun way to incorporate us into every table …. you could do the same with the squares in Savannah!

Your Dad should be able to do the wood parts easily enough.
You can buy the metal fleur de lis shapes at stores that sell drapery rods. They sell finials in that shape.

Ugh I freaking love it and am experiencing a bit of wedding envy right now (I lived in Savannah for 6 months and would give ANYTHING to go back)! I think the chalkboards would look amazing, especially if you could attach the rods that Julies1949 suggested. Which squares are you going to incorporate and where are you getting married??
