Have you looked into renting them?
Is your heart set on the tall numbers? I've seen picture frames work well too (and you can find those cheaply- even get them at yard sales and spray paint them all to match). I also saw this cool wine bottle thing on Martha Stewart weddings that I am considering (my fiance and I got engaged at a winery)
20 gauge wire is strong enough to hold up your number. I assume your number will be won't be that heavy. I had to hold up a laminated cardstock. that was about it. I didn't really have a method. I just grabbed some wire and the thing that clamps on wires.; and twist them around to look like the photo holders I see in store. Any shape would do.
Confession: Honestly, I just gave me FI at the time the wire, the wire clippers, and the cardstock and said "make something that will allow the cardstock to be held in the wire." Sorry, the pic is not very clear but the wire was used to hold the cardstock above the fishbowl.

Does anyone know of a relatively easy way to make these? I want one's that are like 18" tall, and to get 20 or 25 of them it's like over $100!!! I couldn't believe that! I thought I read something about using 20 guage wire, but maybe I just made that up? If anyone has made them before, how did you do it? Do you have any tips? If you have pictures that would be great too!
