- Wedding: April 2012
OK originally I was going to use antique family photos as our table numbers but there were going to be issues getting them from Fiance side of the family and they did not seem that unique http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/vintage-themed-wedding-table-numbers-what-do-you-think
So tonight I was going through my bookshelf and came across my well worn and well loved copy of Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s Sonnets from the Portuguese. I love her poems from the time I was old enough to appreciate poetry.
And then it clicked . . .
I love the story of Robert and Elizabeth Browning and their marriage, while later in life was a truly happy one. To honor that we are planning on using the quote from Ra,bbi Ben Ezra by Robert Browning on our wedding invitation . . .
Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be,The last of life, for which the first was made
The poems from Sonnets from the Portuguese were written to Robert by Elizabeth and they are NUMBERED not titled
So we are going to pick our favorite sonnets and use those as our table numbers – I will have them printed on heavy cardstock and then simply disply on wooden plate display stands.
Unique, personal and vintage 🙂
Here is one:
First time he kissed me, he but only kissed
The fingers of this hand wherewith I write;
And ever since, it grew more clean and white,
Slow to world-greetings, quick with its ‘Oh, list,’
When the angels speak. A ring of amethyst
I could not wear here, plainer to my sight,
Than that first kiss. The second passed in height
The first, and sought the forehead, and half missed,
Half falling on the hair. O beyond meed!
That was the chrism of love, which love’s own crown,
With sanctifying sweetness, did precede.
The third upon my lips was folded down
In perfect, purple state; since when, indeed,
I have been proud and said, ‘My love, my own.’
