I’m getting married on November 8th 2014, and am having a slight table runner dilemma. We are using 8 ft tables (96″ x 30″). Because we’re doing a BBQ buffet, and not using china plates, I ordered these cute personalized paper placemats from papersource to act as our “table setting”. My issue is that the placemats are 18.75″x12.4″, so that only leaves 5-6″ in the middle of the table for a table runner! I’d like to have the color contrast of a runner, I think it adds a nice touch, but I think a 6 inch runner would just look weird, and I think it might also look weird to put the paper placemats over the runner? Help!!

I wouldn’t do the runner. I think it would look weird, there’s not enough space for it to have the effect you want, because there wouldn’t be contrast because that’s the only place where your tablecloth color will show through.
I think the placemats are ADORABLE btw, and I think it will look really cute on a long table. (Edit: But yes, I agree it would be weird th have the placemats on the runner). I would just put several small vases or mason jars or whatever floats your boat along the length of the table and pick brightly colored seasonal flowers to give you a color pop contrast. I think it will be SO cute! Don’t stress the runner– you don’t need it! 🙂

You could use ribbon instead of a runner, leaving some of the cloth visible. Warning- ribbon can be costly. Do an interesting pattern with colors and widths.
You could use a 4″ board painted in your choice of color. I think that being raised above the surface of the table woud be an interesting look.
