You don’t have to be able to sew to make runners.

This fabric is 60″ wide. you can tear it lengthwise into 3 widths of 20″ each.

You can use iron on hem tape to fold under a 1″ hem on all sides and you have 3 runners.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLACK-WHITE-1-WIDE-STRIPES-JAILHOUSE-PRISON-REFEREE-SEWING-60-FABRIC-BTHY-/220980426814?pt=US_Fabric&hash=item337375b83e

If you have a length of fabric that is 12 feet or 4 yds long, you will have a generous 24″ over hang on each end of the table.

At \$2.75 per half yard, \$5.50 per yard, you would pay \$22 for 4 yds = 3 runners at just over \$7 each.

So for every 3 tables you need 4 yards.

ps make sure before you buy fabric that the stripes run the length of the fabric not the width.

I forgot to mention that the average table runner is only 12-14″ wide so you can get 4 runners per length of fabric if you want to be even more economical. That would bring the cost down to \$5 per runner.

I would probably divide the fabric lengthwise by 4. the first option to divide by 3 would give very wide runners or waste fabric.

60″ wide fabric divided by 4=15 inches – have 1/2 inch hems=14 inch wide runners

60″ wide fabric divided by 4= 15 inches- have one inch hems=13 inch wide runners.

Either 13 or 14″ would be fine- no discernible difference.
