Bora Bora is one of my must see destinations! Obviously we haven’t been, but I thought I’d comment for two reasons.

    1. We are looking at going to the Maldives at the end of September/start of October, which is ‘monsoon’ season, so I’ve been reading reviews and talking to travel agents about how that would affect our holiday. Some say that it will rain the whole time; others say it will be beautiful, barely any rain. A couple who have been twice (once during peak season and once during monsoon season) said that they had much better weather during monsoon season and would recommend it over peak.

So, yeah, we’re kind of in your situation decision wise – we’re probably going to go for it – even going in peak time doesn’t guarantee that you’ll have beautiful weather.

    2. If you decide not to go to Bora Bora/Tahiti I would suggest the Maldives and the Seychelles (both of which you mention being an option) and if you’re looking for other sunny, beachy locations consider looking at:

    • Zanzibar, Tanzania
    • Boracay, Philippians
    • The Whitsundays, Australia
    • The Bay of Islands, New Zealand
    • Phuket, Koh Samui etc., Thailand
    • The Galapagos Islands, Ecuador
    • Easter Island, Chile

I consider all those ‘exotic and special’ locations 🙂

SO and I spent two weeks in the Whitsundays last month, and have been to the Bay of Islands a few times, so feel free to ask any questions if you would like info on those areas. My SO has also been to Boracay and loved it.

I was in Tahiti last December. Their seasons are opposite of ours. Everyone was commenting that it was so hot, even the locals were complaining about the heat. However, Tahiti is one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited. I highly recommend it!

Not that this is that helpful but we went in July, which is technically their winter. I LOVED it but I thought it was a bit cold for me (we live in Australia so everything below 30 is cold). It was also a bit windy and there were the occasional short shower. It usually blew over within 5 minutes. I guess the point I’m making is that it’s a fantastic beautiful magical place whatever the weather! It may not have been my ideal weather but Bora Bora could not have been more perfect and I loved every second of it!! I would go any time of year and be totally happy just to be there. Besides a bit of tropical rain is very romantic I think.
