- Wedding: November 1999
I’m happy to report to The Hive that, as of last Sunday, I am officially ENGAGED:D!
It happened during our trip to Seattle, which I had expected (http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/this-is-why-you-shouldnt-leave-yourself-logged-into-your-e-mail_).
So, on Saturday morning we were getting ready and he suddenly said “Today is going to be a GREAT day!”, very emphatic. I then mentioned that I had to work on Monday and he said that the girls would talk to me for sure (there’s been a lot of drama recently so I’ve been keeping my distance from them) and I said no. But he said “Trust me, they will.”…Yes, he’s very obvious with his hints, hehe;)
So he planned to do it on Saturday after a tea ceremony we were going to at a Japanese garden, which is a perfect “marriage” (I’m so punny:P) since I’m an Asian Studies major (Japanese) and he’s a landscaper who focuses on Japanese gardens. After the ceremony, we were walking around the garden taking photos and watching the cute turtles and koi in the pond. We made our way to a gazebo which was on a hill with a great view of the garden. There was a couple in there already so we continued on. Eventually they left so we went into the gazebo. My boyfriend (then;)) started talking about weddings, which he does all the time, and so I replied to what he was saying…and apparently talked about weddings for a bit too long, to the point that he felt that if he proposed right then, it would be obvious. Yes, I literally talked myself out of a proposal, haha!
We then headed back downtown and went to the Ferris wheel right on the ocean, but I didn’t suspect he’d do it there but thought that he was probably thinking up a backup plan. We ended up sharing a pod with a local couple who was our age and they told us about a great park with a view of the ocean and downtown. We decided to go there but once we arrived, it was completely teeming with people. Did I mention it was grad weekend in the city;)? So we left.
At dinner he said that he wanted to go back to the Japanese garden the next day to take more photos. Subtle;) But I just played along.
The next morning, on the Sunday, we headed back to the Japanese garden and he walked around taking photos of us. He was extra affectionate, hugging me and kissing my forehead and telling me how much he loves me. He then made his way to the gazeebo…There was a couple in there again. No problem, we’ll just walk around some more. Well, 45 minutes later they were still there and he was like “This is stupid!” and grabs me by the hand, walks into the gazebo and sits down. A few minutes later the couple finally left (there were many other people who had been trying to get into the gazebo while that couple was in there). Finally, in the gazebo, he was able to propose with our custom-made ring.
Mandatory ring photo! (Stupid iPhone making my hands look red!)
