Big News! My SO popped the question on Saturday night, and now I can call him my FI! The proposal was amazing! We were walking up to our condo building, and when we got off the elevator, he told me he forgot to “Check the mail”, so I should go inside and he would be right up. When I got inside the condo there was a card telling me to get ready for a good night, and to start by watching the slideshow that was all set up on his laptop. I pressed play, and watched the very sweet slideshow he had prepared of photos and videos of us. He also made me a playlist on his ipod I was supposed to play while I got ready. At the end of the slideshow he told me to look in our kitchen for another clue.
When I got to the kitchen I found a card that said “Open me at 6:30”, but get ready for a fun night out. So I put on a cute dress, did my hair, and when 6:30 rolled around (FI obviously was not out “getting the mail” and was just gone at this point!)– I opened the card. A scavenger hunt had begun, and I was instructed to get in the car, and drive all around the city following a series of clues. The clues led me to places like my law school (he met me while I was still in school, so he used to have to visit me at the law library if he wanted to see me), the apartment I lived in when we met, the place we had our first date, etc…
Eventually a clue lead me to one of our favorite restaurant, and he was waiting for me there. After telling me he had to get the mail, he drove away to put the clues in place, then went back home after I started the hunt, parked his car, then took a cab to the restaurant so we only had one car (this is an important detail…) and by this point I KNEW he was going to ask me to marry him. As you may have read from my previous posts, I knew this was coming, and in fact, knew it would be this Saturday. So I was just waiting all through dinner, and could barely even keep up the conversation. I waited all dinner… but it didn’t come. After paying the bill Fiance told me he needed to “use the bathroom”. He was gone for a long time, and I was starting to worry, when the waitress came over with yet ANOTHER card for me. Apparently the scavenger hunt was not over!
The card told me that he had taken my car to our favorite place in the whole city, a local theater, and that I was supposed to meet him there….. by taking the limo that was waiting outside for me! So I went outside, got in a stretch limo, and I was taken to the theater. He met me at the theater on this very scenic lookout that looks over the city and water, and a place we had always talked about as “our special place”. I was SURE he was going to propose to me there. So I walked out… nervous….and he told me how much he loved me, and how special I was… but then told me we should go inside to the bar for drinks! I couldn’t believe he was not proposing yet! I was so confused, but we went inside for drinks for about 45 min, and by this point I could hardly stand it! Finally, it was getting late and he said we should go home. I was starting to think that maybe he was NOT going to propose? But as we walked out of the theater, there was one last surprise…
A horse and carriage was waiting at the door to pick us up, and take us all around the city. It was very romantic, and I couldn’t believe how much work he put into everything. Eventually, on the carriage ride, he dropped to one knee in the carriage and asked me to marry him! I don’t cry very often, and certainly didn’t expect to cry about this…. but as he put the ring on my finger I teared up, and we enjoyed another 30 min of carriage ride before heading back home for the night. It was PERFECT!
And now for what you all want to see — ring porn! 🙂 Ring is a 2.02 ct solitaire round diamond set on a thin platinum band. Exactly what I wanted; simple, elegant, and beautiful.
Let the wedding planning begin!
