I purchased a sample dress several months ago and am now thinking that I might want a sash with it. However, I have no idea what a sash would actually look like with the dress. I really don’t want to spend several hundred dollars on a sash if it won’t even look right with my dress. Would it be weird to take my dress back to the salon that I purchased it from and ask if I could try on sashes?

No i don’t think that would be weird at all.
Just ring them and ask it can’t hurt.

I was in the same boat as you. Aside from the hassle of having to bring your dress to and from the store, I think it would only be ok at the bridal salon you bought the dress from.
In my experience (I went to more than a dozen stores in search of the perfect belt), you and/or the consultant should be able to narrow down what sash/belt would look good with your dress with just a picture. When I was ready to seriously considering buying, the bridal salon (not the one I bought my dress from) was more than happy to let me try on a similar-looking dress to see if the belt would look good. I ended up buying it that day.

I went back one or 2 extra times post dress purchase for accessories. I never brought my actual dress I always used the sample. I’d put the “wear & tear” on the sample instead of your own dress if possible!
