I wouldn't take it if I were you. We went to Jamaica over the summer and I didn't take it for the same reasons you mentioned. It sucked not having it with me but at least I knew it was safe at home. I just didn't want to worry but other women had there's and they were fine.
Well do you plan to take it off much? I don't think it is a big deal to take if you wear it the whole time, but definitely don't leave it in the room!!
Eh, I would wear it just like I normally wear it...Most hotels have a safe so if you want to leave it and not take it to the beach or whatever, you can safely put it somewhere...The Bahamas are pretty safe so I wouldn't worry too much about it...
Hmm. I wouldn't have even thoguht twice about not taking it. As long as it fits your finger snug then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
I probably wouldn't take it with me but I never bring nice jewelry on vacations out of the country. Weird things can happen with airport security, hotel safes, etc. I would rather have it waiting for me safe and sound at home. Whatever you decide though, have a great trip!
DONT leave it in the room! I forgot to take mine off when we went to Mexico, and I was nervous for like 2 days then was fine. We went deep sea fishing, snorkeling, etc, and everything was good. If you are really nervous, leave it home and get a cheap stand in. Ive done that in the past
Find out if the place you are staying has a safe in the room. If it doesn't I would leave the ring at home. I would be too worried to wear it to the beach and I'd never leave it in the room if there was no safe.
I got a fake ring for the honeymoon and I'll hang onto it for future trips.
Well, looks like I might not get to take it even if I want to!! Took it in to be sized today, and while they told me it would only take a day on the phone, they didn't realize how much it needed to be sized until I took it in, and they say it's going to take longer. So it may not even be ready in time for me to wear. I need it to be a size 5 - I'm not sure what size it is right now, but it fits my thumb!! LOLOL
I took mine when we went to St. Thomas. It's insured and I just left it in the room safe if we were going to the beach. NBD.
if you feel really "naked" without it, get a fake stand in! Then you won't worry if you lose it or forget it in your room.
@littlebear I can def. do that! I can wear one of my FOUR fakeys that I would wear when going out with the girls to (try) to keep creeps from hitting on me before I got my real ring LOL
haha that's awesome that you have 4! You are all set then. I have 1 that i used as a stand in when mine was getting a diamond replaced.
My mom is a QVC and jewelry addict, so when she did a "cleaning out" a few years ago, she gave me more jewelry than I will ever know what to do with. Including the fakeys, but at least I got to use them!! LOL
I just wanted to add something that I heard last night.
A friend of ours was in Costa Rica for his honeymoon and left his wallet in the room safe. Apparently the battery in the safe died and it automatically opened. Someone (he suspects the maid) stole his credit and debit cards. She also looked in his phone to find his pin (which he had saved as a contact named "pin") and took $600 out of his account.
I always thought those room safes were secure but apparently not.
I agree w/others. Ring needs insurance, and good hotels have reliable safes in rooms.
I've always brought my jewelry with me and just take nice stuff off when snorkelling or diving b/c fish are attracted to flashy stuff..esp barracudas!
If it were me, I wouldn't (I'm probably not taking mine on our honeymoon). It just depends on how much you think you might take it off I guess. But it may also draw unwanted attention and may be a target for theft.
Well I would never ever go anywhere without my engagement ring (or wedding band once we're married). I've been on lots of vacations with it and there has never been a problem.
You know what I would do? Maybe put it on a necklace around your neck if you think it would slip off? I don't think it will if it fits right. I've been swimming all summer in mine and I have not had a problem.
My mom taught me that if I do take my ring off, to place it in a zipper pocket in my purse and keep my purse next to me in bed (at the hotel) ... which I did. Just in case ... you never know. What if there's a fire ... you grab your purse and run!

This is a kind of silly question, but one I keep thinking about. FI and I are going to the Bahamas with some friends in 2 days - should I wear my ring down there? Would you? I really want to wear it because I just got it, and would hate to have to part with it for a whole week LOL - but I usually don't take any of my "good" jewelry with me on trips, for fear of losing it, or it getting stolen out of the room if I'm not wearing it, coming off my hand in the ocean if a freak wave hits me, etc.
