Well, I really didn’t think it was going to happen until Valentine’s Day. My now FI and I just talked about ring preferences right before Christmas. But, he shocked me last night by proposing to me! Okay, here are the details. We had gone over to my brother and sister-in-law’s house for New Year’s/my mom’s birthday. My sister had just told me that day that she had dreamed the previous night that we had gotten engaged. I blew that off as just being on her mind because I just didn’t see it as happening that soon. Well, just before midnight, my FI called me into the kitchen for some help. I went right in, and he pulled me into an embrace. I thought he just wanted some private time because we’re not much for PDA. He gave me the longest kiss, and then he told me Happy New Year. Then, he went on to say that this had been the best nearly 15 months of his life, and he couldn’t wait to spend New Year’s with me for the rest of our lives. I’m slow on the uptake, so I still didn’t know what was happening. Then, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! As he opened the ring box, I started shaking and sobbing. Of course, I said yes! I tried to compose myself a bit, and then we went back in to see my family. Apparently, my sister-in-law had seen him getting down on one knee, and she had tried to get my brother to get his camera out and snap pics. Back on Christmas Eve, he asked my parents, and he had told them then that it would be either New Year’s Eve or Valentine’s Day. I’m glad that he chose the former because that was going to be a long wait until February otherwise! I’m absolutely no expert on rings, so you all will have to help me. It’s white gold, classic solitaire, and circular cut (I think). I had asked him for a single diamond in a solitaire setting of white gold. So, I’m still on cloud 9. We have no idea when we will actually get married, though, because we are still in a LDR. We’re going to have to start figuring out where we’re going to live before we even begin planning the wedding. I’m guessing it won’t be at least until next fall.
