Taking FH middle + last name and making it your own last name?

@Autumnsnow:  Your example doesn’t make sense because on those cases, Van isn’t a middle name it’s part of the last name. Like DeSoto or McCoy. If you mean more like FIs name is John Arthur Kent and you want to change your name to Janice Marie Arthurkent, it’d be unique? I’m not sure in a good way? Depends on the names involved.

Well then it would just mean of. John Van Kent is just John of Kent, and making the two your last name would just make you Janice of Kent. Kinda how in some Hispanic traditions, you add de before your husband’s last name saying you are not just Maria Perez, but Maria of the Perez Family.

you need to find out from our county/state what is allowed– there were few options my county let you do- keep maiden, move maiden name to middle and have grooms last name, hypenate bride-groom name, groom take brides last name.
