I’ve been on the pill for 11 years and have decided to take myself off of it. DH and I plan to try for kids this summer and I wanted to give my body time to regulate and cycle normally without the use of drugs. It’s become 2nd nature for me to take the pill everyday, so it seems crazy to finally be stopping it. I’m on my last pill-pack now and won’t be renewing my prescription.
As a teen I would get terrible cramps, bloating, pms the whole typical slew of time of the month symptoms. The pill lessened all of that so it makes me nervous to be natural again. On the flipside, I’m super excited at the idea of potentially becoming a mom in 2015!

Congrats on getting prepared to TTC! I am planning on going off my BC pill in the next month or so as well in preparation for TTCing this summer.
I have been on the pill for 10 years so I too am nervous about how I will feel. But, like you, very excited about potentially becoming a mom in 2015. Maybe we will be be on the same thread for birth months!

Congrats!! I went off the pill at the beginning of December after 10 years and it’s gone really well! Things have gone back to normal as far as I can tell (I was regular before the pill) and we started TTC this month :). Hopefully it goes smoothly for you too!

@wifeyoneill21: OMG!! I just had this convo tonite. My pill has gone up to $75 & that just doesn’t make sense. I’d decided to come off the pill on May after the wedding, but I was considering doing it now so it’d be out of my system. I’m too chicken though. The thought of being prego at my we’d in at 35 has me totally freakrd out. So I’m thinking I’ll just wait until May as planned. I went off once before in 2009 after being on the pill for 13 years because of heavy periods & I didn’t have any problems, my period was actually somewhat better than it is on the pill. Good luck!

Good for you, you’ll feel so much better off it! 2 months ago I stopped the pill after 6 years on it and I found these supplements helped:
Milk thistle – to cleanse out your liver
Vitex – balances hormones
Powdered Maca powder (in smoothies) – balances hormones
These seriously helped me – I didn’t even miss any periods, and I had no side-effects to stopping the pill.

@wifeyoneill21: I have been off the pill since December after being on it since I was about 11 (and am almost 22). Have felt fine and had no symptoms. Waiting for my period so will be interesting to see what the first “normal” one is!! My only stress is getting pregnant before August (our wedding).. Good luck OP! Hope it works out for you. Just listen to your body and give it time x

@GeekChic: Thank you! Oh wow, we could be on the same boards for birth months that is exciting to think about! Yay! Congrats on making that decision!
@The_Future_KB: Good luck to you as well! Congrats and Thank you!
@ButterflyBride5: & @megs24:
Oh we discussed that as well! We were legally married in December but will be having a second ceremony & first reception in June for my family as I’m from another state. We had planned to do a wedding in April but plans changed so in effect so did my plans to stop taking BC. It’s on the far corner of my mind there could be a mistake of getting preg early but we plan to be extra careful between Feb – June! It’s super important to us that I give my body time to cycle on it’s own well before the summer. Thank you ladies!
@aussiebride26: Awesome, thank you for the suggested supplements! I was wondering if there was anything I could take to help my body re-adjust I will check for those next time I’m at the vitamin shoppe. How long did you take these or are you still taking them?

It scared the balls off of me, too. After 13 years I couldn’t remember what it was like to have an unregulated cycle. I thought I would be so moody and irrational, and that I’d gain weight, and all this other superficial anxiety. I really wanted to stop the pill and get pregnant right away instead of regulating (as if it ever works out like that). Instead, I decided to track my cycles for 3-4 months and see how they played out.
Guess what? It was awesome! I had LESS anxiety and a BETTER overall emotional landscape than on the pill, I lost weight, and I had a heightened libido. I always thought because the pill never gave me recognizable “symptoms,” that I wasn’t having them. It was so much better being off of it. I had regular cycles right away (26 days, light periods) and conceived the first month we tried. I also feel that I understand my body much better as a result of charting. All in all, I think I won’t be going back on the pill ever again.

@cherrypie: Thank you for sharing your experience, that is helpful and reassuring that I too can go back to normal 🙂 And congrats on having a baby on the way! Yay!

@wifeyoneill21: I’m still taking them, I’ll stop after 3 months off the pill, maybe take the Maca powder if I have bad period pain after that.

Don’t worry! I have been on the pill for 12 years and this is my first month without! I don’t know what to expect in terms of regularity, cramps, etc but I AM excited to TTC, so I would just try to think more about that; since we don’t know what’s in store for us till AF comes!

@wifeyoneill21: i have also been on the pill for on and off 10 years, I would go off the pill for at least 2 months every year. and when I have gone off the pill, I felt fine.
I plan to start TTC by the end of this year

@wifeyoneill21: I’m just about to stop my pill after 10 years of almost constant use, and I have similar fears. When I was younger, I had periods where I bled for 2 months and others where I could fill a tampon or pad in a half hour. And my cramps… oh, they were bad!
I’m terrified this things are going to happen again. But I’m ready to start TTC, so…fingers crossed.

Congrats! I went off the pill about 18 months ago. It took about 3 months for my periods to get back to normal. I also have significantly heavier periods now, sore breasts and more cramping and WAY WORSE PMS. Like, I feel the devil within PMS. But it’s just for a few days.
Also from about months 3-12 I had TERRIBLE skin and breakouts, especially on my body! But luckily it has gotten a lot better in the last few months, my face pretty much looks the same as on the pill now, my back is a little easier to break out, but no more cysts. I’d say that was the worst part!

@snowjewelz: Yay, I wish you the best in your TTC journey!
@Daizy914: Oh I’ve been on it that entire span of time, hoping I have a good experience! Congrats in advance on starting TTC this year
@LadyBear: Yeah my cramps and pms were bad but never the menstration. On the pill, my period lasts 3-4 days only and not sure what it will go to once I’m done with this pill pack but we’ll see. Crossing fingers and toes it all works out fine!
@lucygirl1: Ahh, that’s exactly what I’m worried about 🙁 My skin breaks out a bit every other time even on the pill. I asked my gyno and she said because our ovaries take turns each month it could be one produces more hormones than the other. So no idea if it’ll remain the same or completely change once I’m off of this. Crossing my fingers my body can adjust within that time frame and not freak out on me!
