I'm planning on taking time off but I don't know how much yet. I'd LOVE to take a week off. I can't imagine being able to take two weeks off before the wedding itself though.
I'm taking 2 days off before the wedding to get last minute things done.... my boss actually encouraged it, knowing full well that my brain will be elsewhere that entire week leading to the big day. I'm also taking 2 more days after we get back from our honeymoon just to relax and try to organize all of the post wedding stuff.
If possible, I would do it.
My wedding's on Sunday and I took off yesterday, today and tomorrow. I'm so glad I did - I have relatives coming in today and so much stuff to do! Not to mention that I would be WAY too anxious to be at work right now!
I'm taking off the whole week before my wedding. I figured it was necessary for my own sanity and for actually getting some sleep before my wedding day so I didn't have bags under my eyes in pictures.
I'm taking two days off before the wedding, and my manager also encouraged me to take more. I think I'm also going to take 1 day after the honeymoon to get everything settled/write as many thank you notes as possible.
I'm planning to actually go 0.6 FTE the whole month of July next year. Its more a function of finishing what I'm doing now, and not yet starting a new position... That's why we are planning to have the wedding at that time. Also, it should be easy for us to get time for a honeymoon too!
Many of my collegues end up having to forgo a honeymoon and get back to work, so I feel lucky!
I'm taking a whole week off before the wedding. (I live in a different city than my wedding), and then taking a two week honeymoon immediately after. I started a new job in the spring and negotiated those three weeks. I am also going to plan to take the day off after the honeymoon to get personal admin stuff done so that I can walk into work fresh and ready to work.
You should definitely do it if you can, but if you can't you will still survive!
I'm only taking a day before the wedding - I have limited paid time off, so I wanted to use it wisely (aka. my honeymoon) :)
I work for a UK company so i get better holidays than most. I am taking off a week before the wedding as my relatives and parents start to arrive on the Monday and then 6 days after for my honeymoon :)
I'm getting married on a Friday - I am taking a half day the Tuesday before and all of Wednesday and Thursday off. Additionally, there are a few random days in the two weeks leading up to the wedding I am taking off to have final meetings with various vendors and such. I am taking an extra day (day and a half) off after the honeymoon too.
I took 3 days off before the wedding. mainly too hang with my family and cause my mind was totally elsewhere then work. :)
I actually have the Friday right before the wedding off (we have alternate Fridays off). I was planning on taking Thursday too. Now it looks as if I am also taking most of Tuesday, as my girlfriends have scheduled me 4 hours of massage and general day-spa pampering... after which I'm sure I won't want to go back to work. Which begs the question - why am I working Wednesday? Although if I take Wednesday off, then there is Monday all by its lonesome. You can see where this is going, I'm sure.
I'm taking the Thursday & Friday off to finish up last minute stuff and to be with my out of town guests. Wednesday night will be to have dinner with friends/family & then thursday & friday would be to do anything that I might have fogotten. And I might even take Monday off just to relax because we aren't going on our honeymoon until next year.
Since four of my bridesmaids are coming in from out of town the whole week before the wedding I'm taking that week off. Then the week before that I will be off work anyway because the company I work for shuts down for the week of Christmas. I'm getting married January 3rd 2009. Then we will possibly go on our honeymoon the week after the wedding depending on my school schedule. So in total I will have 3 weeks off for the wedding and honeymoon, and I CAN'T WAIT!!!! :-)
i'll be doing a major relocation after the wedding to move where he currently lives, so i plan to put in my resignation the beginning of September. Last day of work to be Sept 30th. so i'll have the whole month of October to focus on myself, any loose ends, friends and family, and get myself packed and moved before my November 1st wedding.
very few get a month off before, so i consider myself blessed. i'll be quite busy that month so i pray things are all calm the week before!
My last day of summer school is July 24th, the wedding is on August 9th -- so I have a little time to decompress and get things done. I am in the middle of a Master's program, and my last summer clas ends on July 17th, so my schedule actually frees up quite a bit after that. Summer school ends at 1 in the afternoon and we don't teach on Fridays, so it isn't too bad. Right now I am running around ragged -- so I can't wait until the end of July!
I'm taking 3 days off before the wedding and the Monday after... For our honeymoon, a week later, I'm taking off another week.
My wedding is 12 hours away from where I am, so I'm planning on taking about a week and a half off before the wedding to drive home, finish any last minute projects and have a few days before the wedding to hang out and relax. My major project of the year is due middle of July and I'm going to need a break after that as well, so that's why the week and a half. We're coming back for a week of work after the wedding before leaving for 8 days on our honeymoon.
I'm taking off 3 days before my Saturday wedding, and the next week for my honeymoon. The main reason for the 3 days beforehand is to spend time with my family, almost all of whom will be visiting from the other coast. It's coming up in like 3 weeks--OMG I can't believe I'm about to get married!!!!
I took 1 day off but I wish I could have taken at least 2.
As for my daughter, she is in daycare full time, so when I took my day off I brought her to school at the time she normally goes. #1-to keep her on her "regular schedule" #2-to give me free time to finish up the details.
I'm also relocating to move to where FH recently got a job (7 hours away from where I am now). So I'm quitting work 2 weeks before my wedding which should give me time to move most of my stuff down and finish up wedding stuff. I also want to generally relax and spend time with all the family and friends that I'm moving away from.
I'm taking thrus & fri before my saturday wedding, and then the next 2 weeks for the honeymoon (10 work days)! Two of the work days are over the Jewish holidays so they dont count as vacation time :)

Who's doing it, and if you are how much time?
I'm seeing this increasingly and people taking a week off or two even before and after even if it's not followed by a honeymoon.
I'm beginning to wonder if I should make arrangements for my daughter so I can have some time to finish up last minute things with out her? You since "mommy" is my full time job.
