My SO is on a business trip this whole week and apparently, he ordered my ring from Blue Nile 6-8 weeks ago, but it was on backorder. Anyway, they informed him last week that it would ship out this week. Crappy timing since he’ll be gone all week. Rather than leave the ring with the doorman for days on end, he told me about the situation and asked if I would be so kind so as to pick up the ring from the lobby when I got home from work today.
So I did and I just thought I’d pile it on to the other packages he’s received this week and forget about it. But that didn’t happen, because this is the package that was handed to me by the doorman:
The box looks like it was run over by the FedEx truck and that someone tried to open it at some point. So this is a what would you do post…would you stick your hand in there and make sure there was still a jewelry box inside or leave it alone?
I’ve gotta say, based on first impression alone, I’m disappointed but not sure who – FedEx or Blue Nile – to blame…

Text a picture of the box to your SO and ask him what he wants you to do. He might want you to check to make sure the ring is still there.
I would also report the condition of the box to Fedex.

@mojitolady: I would check it! but thats just me. It is prob best to ask your SO first.

I agree with PP – send a picture of the box to your SO. However, I’d also check to make sure the ring is in there anyway. If it isn’t, better to find out sooner rather than later.

And don’t open that little box inside!

Ask him what he wants done and make sure you take more photos to send to FedEx.
Hope it all ends ok!

Thanks, ladies. I took some more photos and when my SO called me in between meetings last night, I told him about the condition of the box. He asked me to leave the box as is and said he will call Blue Nile on Monday and ask them if he should even open it. Reason being he’s worried that if there isn’t a box in there, that BN is going to say it’s his liability since they shipped it out intact. Makes me wonder, how can you actually 100% prove that FedEx delivered it this way? It’s possible that our concierge desk had their way with the box and rendered it in this unfortunate state…

Check to make sure it’s in there but do not peek!. Let your SO know that you did not do that.

@mojitolady: I hope it all turns out ok!

@mojitolady: What happened? Any updates?

I couldn’t resist the urge any longer and stuck my hand in there the other day and felt a small jewelry box. So I know that it’s in there even though it’s wrapped in the plastic FedEx envelope. I also didn’t sneak a peek at the packing slip despite the fact that I have no idea what he got me and I’m dying to know! My SO just got home from his trip last night and said he would call BN today before opening it to let them know about the condition of the package.
My birthday is later this week, and I think it’s quite unlikely it’ll happen then…
