    DEFINITELY. It would make life so much easier, and those ideas of hers sound fabulous! : (6 votes)

    No. She sounds awesome, but you should use the money for something else. : (17 votes)

    I didn’t know you won a contest! How cool!!

    Do you feel like you need the extra help? I’d consider going without it because it sounds like the DOC plan is pretty inclusvie.

    Our wedding planner was a godsend. She was miles ahead of us in anticipating problems, details we would have overlooked, and overall she just streamlined everything beautifully. She knew the vendors and was able to get us little upgrades and extras here and there, and generally thought outside the box.

    That said, if you feel you’re more than capable of being the head honcho for most of the process, then just keep your coordinator as your DOC. It sounds like you’re definitely leaning towards using your money for other aspects; if that feels right, then go with it!

    I’d hire her. Honestly she’s probably going to be able to save you the money you’d be spending in the long run. I know my DOC helped work out a better deal than I was getting in regards to food and transportation.

    I think you can do all this – unless you’re really just too busy I’d do it all myself.  I did.  I wanted to do it.  I wanted to be incharge of everything making sure we put ‘us’ into everything.  I didn’t need some lady sitting in our vendor meetings to get what I wanted.

    It depends if you need the help.  I planned the entire wedding and wouldn’t have appreciated a wedding planner.  I did appreciate the DOC though.

    I think the services that are already included will help you tremendously. I guess it all depends on what type of schedual you have and how much time you have available to do all of your planning. I personally, would not spend the extra money because it’s fun to be able to be the one in charge (with a little help of course!).

    How cool that you won a contest! I think it depends on how much you like planning and how much you are willing to relinquish control to another person. A friend of mine had no interest in planning and was happy to hand over the reins to a planner and loved it! Personally, I really enjoy the process and making the decisions myself, so I think I’d have trouble taking a backseat in planning. I am having a DOC, though, as I don’t want to worry about stuff on the day of the wedding!

    It just depends on what your style is. Whenever I meet with vendors, I always remind myself that their job is to upsell me on add-ons I may not need–after all, that’s how they make their money! If you could use that money elsewhere, it might be worth it to turn her down on the upgrade. Maybe if you explain you’re on a budget but love her ideas, she would still be willing to give you some tips without actually acting as a full coordinator.

    @GreenEyedMoon:

    I agree with the PPs who suggest that the money would be better invested elsewhere. If your wedding were in the next 3-6 months, I might have voted yes, but you have a lot of time between now and next January. WB, wedding blogs, and google searches will give you tons of inspiration and good ideas for free 🙂 If that isn’t your cup of tea, then hire her full-time. The DOC package you won is the type of planner I have, I felt I could do just as good a job on my own leading up and wouldn’t get good value for the price of a full coordinator.

    @GreenEyedMoon:

    It sounds like you are in good, capable hands 🙂 I like your tip of translating $$ to concrete wedding items, it helps prioritize decision-making, thanks!
