- Wedding: January 2012
As I have said before, my fiance and I were incredibly blessed back in January when we won one of those sweepstakes for a dream wedding. One of the things included in our package is a day-of coordinator.
We met with her for the first time last night, and I think she’s fantastic. She’s very professional and friendly, and she seems like she really knows what she’s doing. I’m really excited to work with her.
In our prize package, FI and I mostly won basic packages from each vendor, and then we have the choice to upgrade. Our coordinator is no exception to the rule. I asked her about it last night, and she gave me some more information.
Right now, as my day-of coordinator, she will meet with me frequently in the last six weeks before the wedding, come with me to all my final vendor appointments, plan the schedule for the day of the wedding, run the rehearsal, be the main contact with the vendors for all last-minute details and emergencies, make sure final payments and/or tips make it to the people they need to make it to, etc. It sounds like she’s going to be a real lifesaver.
We also have the option now to upgrade her to being the full wedding planner. If we do this, we will have unlimited access to her via phone and email and have meetings with her approximately once a month to check on progress. She will attend every single vendor meeting with us. She’ll put together a budget timeline that details when and how much we have to pay every single vendor. She’ll help negotiate contracts and be the main contact for all vendors for the entire duration of the planning period. She will do a full walk-through with us of the reception space and help us put together the seating charts. She will manage our guest list and keep track of RSVPs. She’ll give us creative ideas that are within our budget. She’ll help out with anything else we need her to do.
That upgraded package honestly sounds AWESOME, and I want it. She already had some great, creative ideas last night, and I really want to pick her brain for more. FI is really excited about how she’ll help manage the budget. She really just sounds like she would be the greatest thing since sliced bread.
My question, though, is if I really NEED her. Though the price she’s charging will be quite significantly cheaper than it would be without our prize package and without all the work I’ve already done, it’s still a hefty chunk of change. We’re on a budget, and although I think we could afford her, I keep thinking that we could instead use that money to make the decorations even more exceptional, or to rent a limo and upgrade our wedding night suite, or to be able to take a honeymoon. We could use that money to make a million small things just a little bit better. In addition, I’ve been super on the ball when it comes to planning this thing. I’ve been really good about contacting vendors, setting up meetings, going through our budget, etc., etc. Her organization skills, then, while really really nice, probably aren’t necessary.
Talk to me about wedding coordinators, ladies. What are the benefits? I’m sure there are things that I’m just not thinking of. What would you do in my situation? Help please!
