most dresses are fine on me flat footed…but once the slip is added, even the slightest one, and I put on a small heel, you can usually see the top of the shoe.  For all the dresses i’ve tried, i’ve been told that I need to order extra length.

I am 5’10 and my FI is 6’4…so i will be wearing some pretty crazy heels…and will be ordering extra length no matter what!

I’m almost 5’11” (FI is 6’8″) and I’ll be wearing 3 inch heels with my dress – I ordered regular length and it’s perfect!  It’s a Sottero and Midgley dress.

I’m 5’10 and found that most dresses were fine if I wear flats, but a little short if I wear heels.  Since the dress I picked has a very plain bottom, I decided to order the extra length (it was only $50) and hem as needed!

I’m 5’9 and most were fine on me, and I do plan on wearing flats, but i didn’t think about adding a slip. now it makes me wonder if i should get extra length, I haven’t ordered a dress yet.

@XxMyXxDecemberXx: i found that since most slips add “poof” to the dress, bringing it away from the body, i had to get the extra length

I am 5’11” and my FI is 6’2″, so I really wanted a short heel. I bought 2 inch heels and ordered the dress in regular length. I ended up having to go out and buy flats because it was just a tiny bit too short with the 2-2.5 inch heels.

I’m 5’11” and I wore a Maggie Sottero dress right off the rack. I wore flat sandals with it, otherwise I wouldn’t needed to order it in long. But it PERFECTLY brushed the floor as it was. The other brands I tried on, like Casablanca, would’ve needed the extra length. The ones I tried on looked silly on me because they were nowhere near the floor! Some companies make wedding gowns for 5’10” frames and some for 5’8″ apparently.

DH is 5’10”. Jealous of you ladies with your 6’4″+ men! Don’t tell him though =]

I’m nearly 6′ and ordered a Maggie Sottero regular length dress. And get to wear 2″ heels (and don’t need to hem it because those heels make the dress the perfect length).

I think it’s all about the designer, but I didn’t have too many problems with dresses looking ridiculously short on me, but there were a couple that I would have needed to order the extra length on if I’d wanted to wear shoes 🙂

I’m 5’11 and was able to order a normal Maggie Sottero gown, no extra length needed.  I’m wearing a small heel, and with the crinoline underneath, it is perfect length!!

I’m 5’10”, and I had to order extra length on my Watters gown.  The regular length was fine if I was wearing flats, but I’m going to wear a small heel.  Unfortunately extra length is an additional 5″ when I probably only needed 2, so not only did I have to pay for that, I’ll also have to pay to get it hemmed…grr!

My 5’11” SIL had to have extra length on her Sophia Tolli gown, which she wore with 3-4inch heels.

It does depend on designer. And be careful if you’re going the used route – I tried on an MS gown I was assured was regular length, and without a hoop or heels it was barely touching the ground – and I’m only 5’6″! I don’t know if their salon got it wrong, or they ordered short and forgot about it, or what, but if I’d put heels and a hoop under it, then it would have stopped at my ankles!

I’m 6’1″ and my J. Crew ballgown (I’m wearing the Lucinda!) was the absolute perfect length with flats. Luckily, my groom is the exact same height as me, so I wanted to wear flats anyways!

I’m 5’11” and am planning on wearing flats.  I am wearing a Vera Wang gown and did not need to order any extra length.  if I planned on wearing heels, I would need the extra length.

5’11” here.

Allure – needed more length

Mori lee – needed more length

Pronovias – Can wear about 2-3″ heels

Justin Alexander – Need to hem

I think it depends on the manufacturer and gown…
