that ten foot force field of short girls surrounding you at the post near the goal is easily remedied by a few sneaky elbow shots and a knee in the crotch.

i was the girl that nobody liked to get near. it's easy to draw fouls when you're sneaky =]

i was 5'9" at age 12, so yes, kids were mean. Oh well! i just feel bad for our future children...i'm sure they'll be at least me and DH's height if not surpass us!

Oh no, not a force field of girls...just a plain old force field...the ball goes no where near the hoop....ever...

Oooooh, gotcha. Hey not everyone's athletically inclined. My basketball abilities had to be coached out of me for years and years before I figured out how to throw my weight around.

I was good at volleyball. But that's about it for sports. And actually rock climbing was fun too, the long arms and legs really help out with that lol!

True! Ironically i found volleyball to be a very unnatural sport to learn. Its movements are just strange and very unlike anything you do growing up! boy i miss it, sigh. Best part of high schooL!

That's so funny you like basketball but thought volleyball was weird and I could hardly dribble much less get the ball near the hoop but I could serve a volleyball like there was no tomorrow (of course that was back in the day...who knows what my serve would look like now lol)

oh i didn't dribble. i was tall so my job was to hang out by the post, throw elbows, and jump as close to the hoop and lightly drop it in. i had a very limited range of skill and as long as i was within 5 feet of the force, i was good to go =]

@ejs- I wasn't allowed to dribble either. I did once in a game, it ended well, delightful breakaway, scored, tied the game, BUT I still got yelled at for dribbling. lol

Oh, and the elbows thing? I broke a girls nose with that. She kept reaching around, so when I had the ball and she started doing it, I popped my elbow back and broke her nose and got a foul called on her. She also kept holding on to the back of my jersey. That shit drives me NUTS.

    It was delightful. lol

I looove looove this thread!  I'm 5'11" and I haven't started trying on dresses yet, but I've been pretty worried about the length thing!

And I get the basketball question alllll the time.  Never been good at basketball, but I was a gymnast and a cheerleader for 10 years, and I was good at it, thank you very much.  Tall girls can flip themselves just as easily as short ones.  Lower center of gravity, my ass!

I bought my dress today! It's the Maribel dress by Christos. I'd post a picture, but my fiance is right behind me, so he'd see!

I love it. It's fantastic. I am having it custom made though, just for correct proportions, and 5 inches added in the length. It was more than I planned to spend-- with all the custom stuff it ended up being 6 grand. It was worth it though because the dress is so freaking FANTASTIC.

One funny thing though was that after they took all my measurements, they called the shop owner for whatever reason. She had them remeasure me because she said that there was no way that my legs were so long. she thought they'd made a mistake measuring them. :)

@DarlingNikki- When I was 6, and everybody else was going to classes at Tumble Town (gymnastics land), I went too. I got there and they told my mom and me that I was too tall for gymnastics! Jerks.

Not cool! Teachers told me that too, but I just changed teachers, or gyms!  I even went on to TEACH gymnastics for four years, and I always rooted extra hard for the tall kids!! Smile

It's such discrimination to say that stuff to kids. I'm glad you rooted extra hard for the tall kids. :)

The mean teachers were probably just insecure. lol

@Fiftyfootbride:  At least you get sport options!  I only get "Do you play basketall?"  NO!  I play VOLLEYBALL!  I'm proud of being a volleyball player... and I LOOOOVE how all the volleyball GUYS are like 6'7"+ ;-) Walking into my volleyball club for co-ed or mens league nights are like stepping into heaven I feel so short ;-)

One reason why I love my Hockey stud: He's taller than me barefoot, but put him in his skates and hockey gear.... faint!

Can you post your dress in this thread, now!? ;-)

Lol! Yes, yes. This is just it on the model, because it's still being made by little hands. (I don't know why, I just imagine a troupe of little old women making it).

SO PRETTY. I love this dress. It's so fresh!

And btw, i knocked a girls teeth out once. Completely on accident, but her teeth were right at my elbow and she was bobbing too close and when i drop stepped to the basket she didn't back up. Lots of blood and teeth everywhere. I felt bad for the girl.

I love the flirtatiousness of it and it looks so young and fresh! Just beautiful

    @TPH- Thanks. :)

I have a feeling that alterations on this will be a... bad word. I've lost almost 40 lbs now (yay!) since I was measured for it, and want to lose another 30-40. (I'll turn sideways and fall through cracks. lol) It has sideseams, so apparently it won't be a big deal.

I can't help with the extra-tall dresses, since I'm "only" 5'10".  However, I did get size 11 flats for my wedding.  I'm selling mine, or you could get them new from the same place I did (info in bio).

I have teeny feets, thankfully. (Well, not teeny, but 10)

I still don't know what shoes i'm going to wear with that dress.

Those are fab! I wanna buy those puppies! Maybe I'll just buy ALL the pointy fabulous flats I find, and then I'll wear them like regular. AND THEN we choose which one with the dress.

Muahahaha. It is very bad that my parents are not putting a cap on my spending. Bad 50, bad.

Seriously! Can I be adopted lol j/k but I would KILL for your shoe budget for just 6 months lol

I've spent close to $900 right now on shoes that are coming but I only plan on keeping 1 pair and returning the rest, but man I would love to keep them all.

You can always go with the very simple silver flats from Michael Kors, but I think you are on to something, just start buying the pointy flats...all of them :) Thats what I would do if I had your budget :P

LOL @50 my parents figured out early on to cap my spending! sad face.

I'm only 5'10" too but with a LONG torso.. it sucks! So i feel you on the shirt-tugging!

Also I saw those flats at nordstrom too! :) I bought a very similar pair from belk though... the jewels kept getting stuck on my pants! The ones from belk are just plain silver/pewter.

    and... I LOVE YOUR DRESS!

I'm not dress shopping yet, but I am totally bookmarking this thread, and love all the suggestions! (Ok, I did do a little online dress "browsing", and thank you to all who introduced me to Maggie Sottero, I love what I see over there!)

I'm 5'11 1/2" (it's easier to say 6' foot to everyone else, but I know you girls would understand the need for tall girl accuracy :) with a 35" inseam; short torso, loooong legs. I actually sit shorter than many of my friends...but wait till I stand up ;) Oh and I WISH I had short feet to go with, but no, 12 or 13 depending on the brand :/

I totally just remembered a designer I've seen in London... They ship to the US and have a US wherehouse... but I digress.

     http://www.longtallsally.com/

Not a wedding designer but it's a designer for the tall girls!  I'd say 5'11" is considered short to her :-) They also carry shoes up through at least 13! It always nice to find athletic clothes, trousers, and other items actually proportioned to your body.

@klp2010, that is such a cute name!  My grandmother used to call me "long tall sally" when I was a child--she even had a little rhyme about it.  Yay for a tall girls thread!  I'm only 5'10", but my little sister is 6' and we both actually found dresses at David's!  We are however, wearing flat shoes.
