Any closing department stores nearby?? Or a thrift store?? They always sell odd things like that there. Best of luck!!
You could try the simple and inexpensive photo backdrop I used. It cost about $20 to make. Instructions are here.

Not sure what your budget is, but this is the same stand that my videographer is lending us for the day: http://www.calumetphoto.com/item/MF6090/?t=GB01&a=CA01&CAWELAID=36792248
Or, you could place the garment rack on a riser. Depending on your venue they might have one to lend you.
If you do this be sure to secure the rack so it doesn't move.

Most photographers have at least one of those. Check with your photographer. If not, look in the phone book for a photographic rental company. They will have them.
Why not just put some chairs without arms in front of the garment rack/backdrop? That's what we did, and it worked really well. It kind of gave the traditional photobooth feel, since you usually are sitting in the booth, and it allowed for a lot of people to squeeze into the shot at various heights. We got our garment racks from Bed Bath and Beyond for about $10 or $15 each.
(hopefully I've made these small enough to post!)

Honestly, i'd just make the backdrop out of PVC pipe. It'll be way cheaper, and it's really easy. I think it was a bee blog post within the last week or so (very detailed how-to!)

hi bees, i need your help!
i plan to hang a piece of fabric on a garment rack to use it as the backdrop for my photobooth, however, i can't see to find garment racks that are tall enough!
the ones that i've seen online are mostly 67" or shorter (equivalent to 5'5 or shorter), but i need to find one that's at least 76" or 6.1' tall to accommodate male guests.
does anyone know where i can find one?
