I am getting married mid September, and my fiance has a cottage. But I am super paranoid about getting obvious tan lines (I wear thick strapped tank tops). I use sunscreen etc, but they happen … and when I tried my dress on last October, they were noticeable.
Am I better to go to a tanning salon now and get a base? Or can I get tanned before the wedding to ‘correct’ the colours I developed during the summer?

Well even if you have a base tan now, that just means you’ll still be two-toned, but a darker two toned. You may want to consider changing the style of tank you wear–if your dress is strapless you may look into strapless shirts (even if you hate them as much as i do!) or putting an umbrella up if you’re gardening.
Last summer (i got married end of June), every time i laid out, i pulled the straps off my swimsuit. I hated it and felt completely unsupported but it was a necessity. Then i went tanning (i know, bad ejs!)

You could buy some self tanner, i use a spray self tanner and if i miss a spot i just put a little on a cotton ball and go over the lighter spots with it.

I agree with ejs – do everything you can to either stay out of the sun this summer, or wear something strapless. You can certainly go tanning and try corrective things, but I’ve never seen that work 100%.

I agree with ejs and farmersdaughter…and I know that I’ll be worrying about the same thing next summer! 🙂

Walmart has tube tops for $6 😉 I stocked up in every colour! Old Navy also has tome strapless dresses. I’m in the exact same boat as you and strapless everything is my solution! Otherwise, lots of sunscreen. If I do end up with tan lines, I think I’ll try a gradual sunless tanner to try to even things out, but hopefully it won’t come to that!

I bought some strapless swimsuits for when I lay out this summer even though, like ejs4y8 said, they give me ZERO support – I’m always so afraid I’m going to fall out. But I tan really easily and I don’t want tan lines with my strapless dress in July. You do what you gotta do!

I am similarlly afraid of tan lines. I run and am generally outside a lot and I’m alread sporting a farmer’s tan in spite of wearing SPF 70 . . . I’m thinking of starting to avoid the sun starting August 1 and doing a lot of exfoliating/fake tanning and hopefully will be able to even it out. That and spaghetti straps/tube tops . . .

I’m wearing bandeau tops all summer and being careful about walking around in tank tops too. Once you get tan lines, they are very hard to get rid of.

My friend just got married last weekend and decided to mow her lawn 5 days before her wedding! Needless to say, she ended up with some pretty sweet tan lines. She went in to get airbrush tanned and they were able to completely cover up the lines. She looked great on the big day and you couldn’t even tell! You could always consider that an option.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m considering the tube top approach, but I am very busty (36G) … so I don’t want to come across scandalous.
@lauraou7 … great suggestion, I’m going to investigate that option, it seems like it would work.
