Beautyandthebusiness:  Mine is Tanzanite, and I love it! 0.75ct of tanzanite, and 0.25ct of nested diamonds. A lot of people say that it’s brittle, but aside from taking it off when I do any deep-cleaning with bleach for the bathroom, my ring has been fine! I was told by a jeweller not to do the vibro-cleaning of it, so I bought a dip-clean for at home.

I have a tanzanite RHR ring I love.  It’s a LeVian, and I got it at Macy’s on clearance about 10 years ago….ETA, sorry for the terrible picture quality!

Oh, and tanzanit is brittle.  I chipped mine.  You cannot see it, but I can feel it, but I probably would not want it as a ring I wore every day, even though I think it is beautiful and is probably my favorite colored gem!

I have a Tanzanite RHR, it’s a trillion cut stone with a diamond halo and half eternity band.  I love it but haven’t been wearing it since I got engaged because I feel weird having rings with stones on both hands.  I did not know they were brittle…guess I’ll need to be more careful with it!  I’ll take a picture when I get home!

The hardness of tanzanite is 6.5-7 on the MOHS scale.  A diamond is a 10.  As I said, I chipped mine….

love that purple blue color! Very pretty! I am also getting one from my parents as my wedding Gift . Below are a few I am considering. It’s 9 ct! Probably will make a necklace, rather than ring.

Tanzanite is one of my favorite stones. Like others have said, they are not a very hard stone and so that would be my only concern with having is as an engagement ring you wear every day. I have a RHR that was a gift from DH many years ago when we were first dating…similar to this:

http://www.overstock.com/Jewelry-Watches/Miadora-10k-White-Gold-Oval-cut-Tanzanite-and-Diamond-Accent-Ring/3218798/product.html?refccid=QRSVHVYKYNLY2UKF4RL5LEMPSM&searchidx=3

I wore it every day in all sorts of places, and never had any problems with chipping or damage. That being said, it also was a much smaller stone. If I were getting one as an e-ring I would pick a larger stone and that for sure woul dbe more prone to damage.

I wore it every day

Tanzanite is a lovely stone, I have a few pieces in my collection.  But the stone chips and is not good for every day use.  That is the main problem with many gem stones, they are not made for everyday use because they are just not as hard.

Happy to post mine!

Others are definitely right that tanzanite is a fragile stone. If you notice, mine has 12 prongs protecting the stone… so I’m hoping I won’t ever have any chips!

The tanzanite is 2.5 cts, and there are 1.5 cts of diamonds in the halo. The ring is 14k yellow gold (but you can’t really tell looking straight down at it).

Oh, and my ring size is a 4.25, for reference.

This is also a RHR for me.  It was hard to find an engagement ring that wasn’t overshadowed by it, LOL!

Here is a picture of the side profile–I really think my stone is protected well. I wear it every day.
