Was your Taste Testing at your reception all Free?  They told us before we booked that the testing would be complimentry for 4 people and we would have to pay for anyone over the 4 people.  But now that we have booked we have found out we have to be $19.99 a person and they don't give us 4 comp. so we are pissed! So I was wondering if anyone else had to pay for their tasting?

My reception venue doesn't provide catering; I have to bring in an outside caterer. We've gone to three tastings now though, and all of them have been free. However, when I was still looking for a venue, quite a few of the ones where you had to use their own caterer charged for the tasting - one was $100!

Well you are lucky yours are free! Mine isn't free and you pay 19.99 per person and that only allows you to taste one thing on the menu (It includes a full salad, 1 app, and 1 entree) so every person you bring to the tasting pays 19.99 and everyone orders something different and you have to share off eachothers plates! I was outraged! So not only did they trick me saying it was free when it was not, but the 19.99 only allows you a sample of 1 entree and you have to eat off someone elses plate to try a different thing on the menu! Mine is included, and they actually accommodated our group and made enough for five people instead of the standard four.

I would let them know that you are disappointed that they told you it would be free! If they miscommunicated this information on purpose, it sounds like they might have told you things that weren't true just to get you to sign their contract. I would be nervous about what other information would "change." If it was just an honest mistake, then there's not much to do.

But if you are taking your parents and your FI, then it won't be tooooo bad to share off of each other's plates.

Our tasting is free, but we don't get to try all the entrees that we were hoping for (it is a group tasting, so there are too many options to serve them all).

I was really annoyed to find out that our tasting was $20/person.  I went to the same venue with my best friend when she was doing tastings for her wedding and it was completely free.  Maybe it's the economy?  Either way, I think it is pretty lame of them to charge us when the event is invitation only and we all already have commited several thousand dollars (or more!) to have our events there.

Yeah mine was free too.  Have you spoken to a manager to make sure that the second person didn't make a mistake in charging you?  Is it by chance in your contract that the food tasting is included?  Have you tried arguing with someone?  Maybe at least to get two people for free?

I would be mad too.  Make sure you look through that contract to see if the other things you were expecting,( or they told you was included) is actually written there.

For the bride and groom it was free but for every additional person it was $50...We were pissed about that...we're paying almost $18000 for 150 people and you can't give 4 sample plates for free?!?!

I would be irritated, I would definitely let your caterers know you had originally been told that the tasting was free and see what they say. Maybe they would comp 2 people for the tasting. My caterer tasting was free but when I first started looking at venues one tried to charge me for a tour since they charge visitors fees for guided tours, which was lame.

Ours was free, but it was just for the 2 of us (FI and I) and only included the main course- not the veg option or any of the appetizers.

If you have the free tasting for 4 in your contract, press the issue.  If it wasn't in writing, you can make a stink- but be advised, do you really want to piss off the people that are prepping your food?

Our was completely free for 6 of us.  They put down more than enough food and three different chickens, beefs, and salmons.  Plus salads and appetizers.  It was great.  I thought all food tastings were supposed to be free.

My venue doesn't have a caterer like some of the other posters mentioned above- so we had to bring one of their preffered vendors in.

We did four tastings... One costed us $50/person(which was just me and my fh), the second was $150 (also me and my fh). And two of the others were free. My wedding coordinator was shocked when she learned (I hired her after the fact), that I had to pay for some tastings. But interesting enough, The caterer we chose, we didn't need to pay for their tasting- and they fed the four of us (my parents happened to be in town and went to the tasting with us).

We are using an independent caterer and the tastings were completely free (well, maybe they are built into the cost but they didn't charge us anything when we went). We didn't even THINK to tip at our first tasting and did feel badly about it. I don't know that we'll even have a second one; the first one went really well.

I have talked to them, including the manager and they said that I must have mis-understood.  But I asked them everything, I felt like a nut because I went there soo many times to make sure I had all my questions answered, so I knew I didn't mis-understand.  They said they have NEVER given comp tastings, so it isn't just the economy.  Wicked pissed! And its $20 a person! so for me, my FH, and my parents to go thats $80 when we have already committed to paying at least $10,000 in room rental and minimum food amounts....and we are having over 250+ people so we know we are going to surpass the $10,000.  Its just nuts!
