Just wondering what the norm is for having tastings with your caterer either before or after you booked them. The venue I am looking at has an exclusive caterer but apparently they don’t do tastings. I’m a little concerned about booking a caterer without every trying their food before. Is this something anyone else has done?

Our venue has an exclusive caterer as well, but we still got a food tasting. We were able to choose two entrees and two sides for the tasting. We were happy with our selections so ended up choosing those – but the coordinator told us we could have selected a second tasting if we hadn’t been happy.
I would maybe press this one with your venue. How are you supposed to select your foods without having any idea what tastes good.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking . . . they offered us referrals but that’s not going to cut it. Even if we didn’t taste exactly what we end up serving I want to be able to try something that this caterer has cooked. Especially since they’ve gotten some mixed reviews.

We booked a venue with an exclusive caterer. We weren’t able to do a tasting since we are doing stations. They offer a tasting before you book if you do a sit down meal. They only offer a stations tasting every few months. So there will be a tasting several months before our wedding. I have read all good reviews about them so I’m not really worried. My aunt also has attended an event at the venue and she said the food was good.

I have had the food before from our cater, so I know/knew that the food tastes like. So we didn’t do tastings.
