I am getting my second tattoo soon (hopefully this weekend) and I was set on getting it on my foot, but now I’m not so sure. I’m concerned about fading and the bleeding of the color over time. Does anyone have a foot tattoo? Are you happy with the placement of it? Also, did it hurt significantly more than others you have?
I want my tattoo somewhere that I can see it because I can only see my current one in the mirror and I don’t want it somewhere that it’s going to stretch when I am pregnant. I also like the idea of being able to hide it in case I ever have a job that requires that. So it seems that only leaves my foot or ankle and I don’t like ankle tattoos…any other suggestions or thoughts? Pictures are always welcome too, I love looking at other people’s tattoos!

I have one and I love it. It is my only one so I can’t compare the pain to any other tattoo but I will say I was in severe pain the entire time (about 45 minutes).
I got it last summer, which wasn’t the smartest thing to do because I work at a day camp that requires us to wear tennis shoes/be in the sun. My foot was so swollen for a week that I could barely fit it into a shoe and it was difficult to walk. Overall it took about a month for it to completely heal. I have had a slight fading but I think that is because of the ink used (my sister has a foot tattoo that is much brighter even after 5+ years).
This is right after I got it done:

PS I normally have a super boney foot but in the picture it was so swollen you can’t see a single bone.

Beautiful tattoo! Thanks for sharing, babyboo!

I got mine done the Thur before I graduated High School (2005). The first pic is from about 5 years ago, the second I just took. Sorry about the quality…my phone pics suck :/

I love my foot tattoo! I love where I decided to put it because I usually wear open shoes, and it looks really nice… It did hurt when I got it, but it wasn’t that bad. It got progressively more painful towards one of the ends (it was three years ago, my memory is fuzzy and I can’t remember which) but since it was small and simple, it went quickly
The picture in the black shoe is was taken the day I got it, and the second in the blue shoe, I just took. You will notice the white dot in the biggest star
I got it when I was on a long weekend trip to visit a college friend, and I didn’t bring the correct shoes, and also, we went to a gun range right after, so I had to wear closed toe shoes… I wound up just folding down the heels of my lo-top chuck taylors, which rubbed the large star. A blister formed and lifted the color, causing the white spot. I will get it fixed when I get my next tattoo, but other than that, the color has stayed amazingly, probably because of the ink (red inks fade faster). I also have been diligent about putting sunblock on it.
My old roommate got one on her heel, and it keeps wearing off because of the skin regeneration.

oh and PS, I got this one so I can see it too… my first one is on the back of my neck, and its hard to see, even in mirrors… it made me sad

I have tattoos on both my feet. If it doesn’t hurt like a [email protected]# fuc#[email protected] they aren’t doing it right. I had a huge problem with fading with my first tattoo, but I know it’s because I wore shoes and socks and swam way too soon after getting the tattoo. Thankfully I got it retouched last year, treated it like a baby and now it’s beautifully dark again.

My aunt has a foot tattoo, which she said hurt more than tattoos on other parts of her body. For a longer term perspective, she got hers touched up every few years over the last 15 years. The foot tattoo is definitely subject to more fading than tattoos in other places, at least for her.

I just got one on my wrist about 6 months ago but contemplated getting it on my foot instead. the tattoo artist told me foot tattoos fade the most so i decided against that. Pretty sure they all eventually fade, but a foot tat does the fastest.

Thanks for all the input. The fading is definitely something that concerns me, especially because I wear open shoes a lot where it would be exposed to sun. Hmm…I just don’t know where else to get it that I’ll be able to see it!

I got one on the top of my foot during my second year of undergrad. The tattoo artist said it wouldn’t fade as badly as ones placed on the side of the foot and I make sure to put sunscreen on it when I wear sandal or any time it would be fully exposed to the sun. It hasn’t faded as far as I can tell but it did hurt like no other. I have two other tattoos and it hurt the worst, BY FAR.

I have a tattoo on my foot, (side of my heel). I got it 7 years ago and so far no fading or bleeding. I absolutely love it. I hurt but now as much as I thought it would. I don’t have any other tattoos so I don’t really have anything to compare it to.
