I just accepted a positon as a first grade long term sub through Thanksgiving. I am so excited and can’t wait to get the year started but I’m feeling a little out of the loop and super nervous. I have no idea what state the classroom is in and what sort of things I will have to do to get it all ready. I am going in on Wednesday to meet with another first grade teacher and some students are coming in throughout the day so I can test their reading levels. Although we do not start until after Labor Day, lots of my teacher friends have already started to prepare and plan.
If you have been (or had) a long term sub in the beginning of the year, what sort of freedom will I have in terms of planning and preparing? I do not want to set up the whole room and when the teacher comes back from maternity leave it is not set up the way she likes it. Is it all my decision or should I try and contact her to figure out how she would prefer it?
The new teachers have all next week in the afternoons to work in our classrooms, so I am sure I will have lots of time then. I just feel like I have no information on how this will all work. If you have been in this situation, any advice/insights would be great!
