I’m in my last semester of college, and as I posted in a thread a few days ago, I’m not 100% sure about what I want to do. However, one of the things I’ve been considering is going to grad school to become a school conselor.
A job just opened up in my area for a Career Development Facilitator- basically helping middle and high school students develop career goals, set up internships, and things like that. It actually sounds like something I would really enjoy, and would help me figure out if school counselor is the path I want to go down because a lot of the work is very closely related to what high school counselors do. I am more than qualified for the position- it only requires an associates and one year of work experience in any field.
The problem is this: I’m going on a study abroad trip for a month in late April- late May.
Should I apply and interview for the job now, informing them that I would be unavailable to start until June (and therefore probably not start work until August?) Or should I wait until after I get back from my study abroad trip and hope that they are still hiring for the position?
Do schools often hire far in advance for the upcoming school year?
