I moved over the summer for DH’s med school, so I’ll be teaching at a new school this year. Luckily, it’s the same grade that I taught last year though! My first day is August 8, and the kids come back the 13th. Super excited!
What about other teacher bees? When do you go back?

We go back on the Tuesday after the Labour Day long weekend, so this year it’s September 2nd, which is rather early, but then we also end the 2014-2015 school year on June 25, which is also early. I’m a Canadian bee for reference

I’m in grad school for teaching right now, so not actually teaching, but schools around here start either right before or right after Labor Day. So late August or early September.

Teachers go back the Tuesday before Labor Day….so August 26….kids start with orientation week on September 2….bust since we are a private (all boys catholic prep school) school, that first week is pretty much orientation and a freshmen “get to know you” day….we have classes on Friday, but the following Monday (this year–it’s usually that Friday) is mass so we have 20 minute classes.

- Wedding: June 2013 - Upstate NY
We go back Tuesday after Labor day every year and end the 3rd week in June. Our school “gives” us 2 Superintendent’s conference days to “prep” (or go to endless meetings..) then kids come Thursday. I know, it’s silly.

Unfortunately because the school districts in my state canceled school so much due to snow/cold weather, most districts are going back early to ensure that we actually meet the required number of school days. Right now, our last day will be June 9, but we could potentially have school until June 30 if there are a lot of snow days.

Ugh… we start August 5th! And the kids start the 11th. **cries over keyboard**

I start on August 21st, classes start August 25th. I have one syllabus mostly done and plan to spend next week revising quizzes and finishing the rest of my syllabi. Good times….

dayl20: I go back (though I start with insane meetings/planning next week so I kinda count that as going back) August 13 and the kids start the 19th. I checked our online course access and my schedule is up plus I have some students in those classes. The nerves! (I always get nervous when I see that because it means the school year is almost here.)

This is only my 2nd year of having my own classroom. I subbed for a year, then took a 5th grade position AFTER school had started last year. I was called late one evening to tell me that I was hired, had to go to the board office the next day to sign papers, then took over my classroom the next day. It’s amazing to actually have time to plan this year, but I’m still a little stressed out. I just found out last week that I had been recommended for the position and didn’t know for sure until this past Monday that I had secured the position. Usually, the school principal conducts interviews, but since they were in the process of trying to FIND a principal. The personnel director from the BOE conducted the interview. I was just contacted by the new principal this Monday and get to go see my classroom tomorrow. I can’t wait to start setting up my classroom AND getting to meet with the other 5th grade teacher to discuss schedules since we’re departmentalized. I’ll actually feel like I can actually start preparing instead of just collecting materials and pinning things on pinterest, lol. Not to mention planning lessons since I’ll know for sure what subjects I’ll be teaching, lol.
