@Glasgowbound:  My ultrasound tech told us to look away when she was taking shots that would reveal it.  Also she cropped all of the photos she gave us, so we couldn’t see the goods!

Um, I couldn’t see anything that showed the sex.  The tech looked at those shots without putting them on the big screen.

We couldn’t see anything that showed the sex either. And, in fact, our tech didn’t even “go down there,” as she put it – since we didn’t want to know. So she didn’t even know what we were having, therefore it was not listed in my chart where someone might slip and tell me.

I was worried about the same thing before we went for our 20 week scan. But I promise you, you won’t be able to tell what anything is without the tech pointing it out to you!

Your tech should tell you to look away when they get to the important end.

Same with me, @mrsjroo:  Seeing as we didn’t want to know our tech didn’t even look there! Problem solved 🙂

We told the tech we didn’t want to know and she stayed away from the lower end of the baby until the end of the ultrasound. She told us when to look away and then when to look back for a nice closeup of baby’s little foot. Then we looked away again while she moved back up the baby’s body. Easy! The techs also don’t write the sex down so no one in my OB office knows either.

I thought it was super hard to see we’ve. When the tech painted it out and explained what we were looking at. Those images can be so grainy, and our guy is so active.

I am commenting because if I had been team green for my 20w scan I would have been pissed! haha. My tech asked me if we wanted to know and we said yes, but regardless the *second* she put the US on my stomach all you saw was two legs, spread wide showing off his boy goods. He was flipped around and though my SO didn’t know I knew immediately.

I think you should look away at first even if the tech doesn’t say to if you really want to make sure you don’t find out!

I think I would look away at the beginning.  Right when our tech set the thing on my stomach, I could tell the gender.  It might have just been lucky that she put it on the right place, but the first thing I saw was a little penis.  I wanted to know the gender, so it wasn’t a big deal, but that would have really sucked if you didn’t want to know because it was pretty obvious.

We have been told to remind our dr and d tech at each appt that we do not want to know gender. The tech said she will tell us to look away when shes in that area. Im not good at reading ultrasounds but DH is because he works in the medical field at a hospital where ultrasounds are used daily. Good luck!!

Tell them right away (before starting the u/s) you don’t want to know the sex of the baby. We had a ton of u/s due to a high risk pregnancy (i think we had 6 or 7 in total?) and were team green and not once did I see anything, even after a couple times of me “searching” when the tech showed me other features. 🙂 Most will usually show you the face, arms, fingers, feet, legs, heart and that’s it. 🙂

Yay for a team greener-  it’s such an awesome surprise!

We’ve had 4 U/S so far and have another one in a month due to baby being proportionately smaller than average, but otherwise perfect.  Each and everytime the tech asks us if we know or if we wanted to know prior to the most recent two U/S.  with the exception of the 20 week, they have stayed away from showing the sex.  At the 20 week, they just told us to look away.

I thought the further along we got the easier it would be to “see” what the baby is but they have been great about keeping it from us.

We have our first and only ultrasound tomorrow (20 week) and I was having the same concern since we are team green! I will definitely be telling the tech right away that we don’t want to know the sex and looking away to start. 🙂

The tech always told us when they were measuring down there and to look away if we didn’t want to know (which I always stated as soon as I walked in the room for a u/s). They also didn’t put it in my chart.
