I always thought I would find out the gender of my baby before it is born, however, the more I think about it, the more I would love to wait and think it would be such an amazing surprise at birth. My mom didnt find out what I was until birth either, so that really helped my decision because she said it is the best surprise in the world and worth the wait. Hubby is onboard, after some convicing lol…but here are my “concerns” I am hoping some of you team greeners can help me out with:
If you have a baby shower, what kind of clothes do people buy for the baby? Or do they tend to stick to things on your registry?
So far I have seen TONS of cute baby boy clothes and TONS of adorable baby girl clothes, but not a whole lot of gender neutral ones…is there a website or brand that makes cute gender neutral clothes that I am not aware of??
Or do you plan on sticking to mostly basics and then after the baby is born go on a shopping spree?
I guess logistically those are my only concerns, even though they are very minor…I would just love to hear what other people did and any tips they have!!

We got mostly what was on the registry (YAY) with a handful of rebellious family members that decided to wait till baby was born before making their purchases. Lol Then when dd got here we went from there on clothes we needed, & a number of family & friends have now gotten & given us their “pink” gifts. And really at first since baby is primarily home anyways, all you need are some onsies & sleepers (if you prefer thoughs).
I really liked being team green & am glad we went that route…. Especially with the baby shower. DH & I decided that even if we find out next time we won’t be sharing it with anyone. 🙂

@runsyellowlites: thanks!! Glad to hear you are happy with your decision to go team green. Also, those tips are great- that’s so true that since baby is home for awhile, all you will need is onsies and similar stuff. Seems pretty manageable! hope you and your LO are doing great! 🙂

I didn’t have a baby shower with either of my kids, and we were Team Green for both. Basically, I just bought some gender neutral sleep n’ play outfits and other basics (onesies, soft pants, etc…) and then went crazy shopping after they were born. Carters has some cute gender neutral stuff, both in store and on their website. Also, I found that a lot of boys stuff works for either sex.
Being Team Green was an absoltuley amazing experience for my husband and me, both times. 🙂 In fact, if/when we have a third, we’ll be Team Green again!

Yep – being team green is totally worth it. SO SO fun to find out in that moment “It’s A BOY” (or a Girl :)).
Babies grow SO FAST that in my expereince even those who get loaded down with pink or blue clothes – get WAY TOO MUCH and the baby can’t possible wear them all. So it’s not a bad thing to not receive a ton of clothes at the baby shower.
We received a lot of hammy-down stuff from nieces/nephews that was gender neutral before our son was born and you’d be surprised. Lots of it is animal themed. And really – who cares if my little girl wears a little outfit with baseballs and footballs on it 🙂 I don’t. Plus my mom found a BUNCH of stuff somehow – she had a whole clothes line full of outfits at my shower 🙂
Don’t worry – your family and friends WILL buy you clothes after the baby is born and they find out the gender. PLUS – you’ll have gift cards to spend AND you’ll have gifts that need to be returned and you can spend that money on clothes. We had SO MUCH for newborn – 6mos that I ended up returning a lot of things so I could get larger sizes. And that was really fun to get to do some of the shopping 🙂
Even if this second baby is a girl – she’ll be wearing lots of big brother hammy-down clothes that are not ‘pink’ or even ‘purple’ for that matter 🙂 But I’ll make sure she also has some ruffles!

@Mrs. Spring: thanks for your input 🙂 I am happy to hear it was an amazing experience, I hope we can stay as strong!!! i do agree that most boy stuff would work for either…and I just checked Carters and saw they had some really cute things! thanks!
@babycrz: your post made me feel so much better, thank you! You are so right- every person I have spoken to said their baby didnt get to wear HALF of what was bought for them. glad to hear being team green was so worth it and fun!
