I was just thinking about this! I think I def want to! I am not gonna go crazy and spend thoudsands of dollars on it, but I would like our teeth looking pearly white for our photos! good question..how much is the average price?!
I use Rembrandt whitening gel and really like it. I've had two dentists ask what I use in the past to keep my teeth so white. And it's much cheaper than a single session at a dentist!
I use crest white strips and love them. Easy to use, stays on, doesn't get in the way..
We are, I have used Crest white strips in the past and swear by them. They work just as good and are cheaper than the dentist.
ill have to try the crest white strips then, im trying to save money wherever i can but its nice if its cost effective!
I use a Sonicare toothbrush, always make sure to floss, and I use Crest White Strips too.
Also, I drink coffee and tea. How I am able to drink caffeinated beverages without staining my teeth? Always drink with a straw! :)
ill be heading to the store to buy more staws.. i used to do this all the time, it makes such a difference thanks for the reminder!!! genius!
I used the Aquafresh whitening trays, I don't recommend them. They were kinda awful.
I am going to try the rembrandt gel next, and i might just do zoom whitening if nothing else works.
Someone else on here told me if you swish with a little hydrogen peroxide every day it will brighten your teeth a lot!
I definitely second the use of straws, it really does wonders for keeping your teeth white. I used the bleaching gel you buy from the dentist, it is usually $60 for 6 synringes (which last me about 6 months). I had the dentist make trays that fit my teeth, but I do not remember the cost because that was about 5 years ago.
My mom used those whitening trays where you put gel in them and fit them over your teeth. She got whiter teeth but experienced a lot of irritation and pain because the gel would get on her gumline and up toward the root of the tooth. So you have to be careful whatever you do because the whitening agents can be really irritating if they get anywhere but your teeth.
I asked the dentist and he said that Crest Whitestrips actually work BETTER than zoom whitening at the dentist!
So I am using CWS. I get sensitivity and so I am using them every other day instead of every day and I am seeing good results! (I am half way done the 14 day treatment)
I tried swishing hydrogen peroxide at night and it works well (and super cheap) but it's more gradual than some of the other methods. I had gel trays before but they irritated my gums and made my teeth sensitive.
i have professional whitening trays from the dentist (day white)...
And FI just bought me “platinum” from target as one of my stocking stuffers :P
I use to swear by Crest White Strips, because they really do work wonders. But last time I went to buy them, money was kind of tight. So instead I bought the Wal-Mart brand which are Equate. They are not as flexible as CWS, but have the exact same effect!
really hydrogen peroxide? And it didn't sting or anything (sorry maybe a dumb question). After our engagement sesion and seeing my less than white smile and really want to get my teeth whitened as well but like everyone else money is tight. thanks for all the suggestions.
FH and I did zoom a couple months ago... The only whitening we experienced was the splotchy whtness from the dehydration of the teeth. Big waste of lots of money. I love the Crest white Strips, though :-)
@pammyd, Nope, no stinging from the peroxide or sensitivity. And it doesn't even have much of a flavour. My teeth feel super clean afterward too. I try to do it every night, but I'm a little forgetful.
I love the crest strips. If you worry about sensitivity, there's a product called Mii paste that your dentist can give you which reduces sensitivity. You put it on once a day and it strengthens your teeth.
My SO had zoom done about a year ago. Could not tell the difference at all.
I too, swear by Crest Whitening Strips. My only problem is I sometimes get too lazy to do them. But I promise, they do really work.
@tomsbride - I've heard the target knockoff works the same as the crest whitestrips, im going to try those this week!
I am doing dentist-based whitening (Opalescence). I find Sensodyne Whitening and Act Fluoride Rinse really help address the occassional sensitivity on this. I'm lucky, though, on the dentist-based whitening because I go toa dental college-based clinic, so everything costs 50% of what it would at a regular dentist.
I had tried the Target brand of the whitening trays and my teeth stung soo bad I was almost in tears! My friend gave me a white strip by Crest and I had no pain at all! I know my teeth are super sensitive, but really that much pain?! I love all these ideas! I need to try them!! The only thing I find hard to do it keep those suckers on my teeth for half and hour! I go crazy! Maybe I will try a different brand that works faster..
I am a dental assistant, and I agree Crest is the best OTC whitener. I would also use the crest night white toothpaste to follow; I really feel that it works. Though if you really want "white" teeth, the OTC whitener only bleaches the surface of your tooth, where as if you go to your dentist and use the At home bleaching trays or zoom you are bleaching the internal of the tooth to the surface. The at home trays are also custom fit to each tooth perfectly, plus it is cheaper than Zoom. Zoom takes an hour and is more expensive, but you get the results in an hour.
Your teeth are very porous and after you bleach whether OTC or from the dentist you shouldn't eat or drink ANYTHING for an hour to insure your bleaching efforts. Good luck.
all great tips, thanks everyone... im definitly trying the CWS if that doesnt work ill do the trays, if that doesnt work ill try the zoom... but im confident the CWS will work...
We'll be having our engagement pictures when we are satisfied, i cant wait, thanks for everyones help and reviews
I agree with a few other posters who said the Aquafresh trays were awful! They were really uncomfortable the keep in place (poked into my gums), the gel really irritated my gums, and towards the end of each "session," the gel would get foamy and expand in my mouth. I felt like I had to seal my lips closed to keep from spitting everything out. They also made my teeth way too sensitive, despite using prescription sensitive tooth toothpaste. Sooo, long story short, I'll be trying the CWS next time around!
Just a tip for everyone who uses hydrogen peroxide to whiten, don't use it everyday. It can turn your tongue black, which I'm sure none of you want. Plus, it doesn't have anything in it that actually whitens teeth. I'd stick with Crest White Strips if you want something relatively cheap and over the counter.
It might depend on the dentist office but my mom just got her own whitening trays that she can get free refills for every month (I think) for just $100. I don't know what they're actually called but I'll probably find out next week when I go.
I actually went to my dentist this week to inquire a bout whitening for wedding pics and etc., and he actually told me that he didnt recommend it. He said that the whitening makes your teeth more brittle and sensative. Also, since everyones teeth are varying shades of white, yellow and gray, after the whitening is done, your teeth might be 'TOO white'. I might just try the Crest Whitestrips route.
Does anyone know of a brand that isn't a "strip" or a "tray"? I can't whiten my teeth because one of my front teeth is a crown. However my incisors (the pointy teeth on the top) are pretty badly stained and I'd like to try to just whiten those teeth. I don't even know if it's possible!
I've been using Listering Whitening Mouthwash twice a day and I have really seen a different. It is so much more convenient than doing the strips and it gets inbetween teeth too.
I've been using this new toothpaste called Crest 3-D white. It works amazing! I wasnt too sure about the trays so I tried this, and I could see a difference after just a few days. You just use it in replace of your normal toothpaste, love it!
I got my teeth professionally whitened at the dentist about a year ago and now my teeth are really sensitive. I WOULD NOT recommend it as drinking ice water or eating anything cold is super painful now...
@sboston06, I also have crowns but on my top front two teeth. My dentist said you can use the whitening strips on them it just won't do anything. He also said OTC treatments were better than the dentist office treatments (at least in my case) but to be careful since your crowns are matched to your natural tooth enamel that if you whiten them too much it can begin to look like your crown in the discolored tooth. BTW I use the CWS and haven't had any issues.
i was just wondering the same thing! it seems the consensus is the crest whitening strips. but did any of you consult your dentist first? i am nervous to try this without talking to him (I've had the same dentist since i had teeth!)
Just as a PSA---one thing NOT to try is Crest Pro-Health mouthwash. In fairness, it doesn't purport to whiten teeth---just to fight plaque and freshen breath. Thing is, for many people (including me, yuck!), it turns your teeth BROWN. Yup. Brown spots on your gumline, like your teeth are rotting away. I was sort of shocked to find out that people have been reporting this for several years and they still sell this stuff. I wrote Crest an email about how disappointed I was in them, only to get a response that the spots were a sign that the mouthwash was working, and they would go away and my sense of taste would return once I stopped using it. (Umm...I didn't know I had lost my sense of taste in the first place...??)
On the upside, my dentist got most of the brown off with some work (and said please please consult him next time before trying new products!) But it was still really annoying, given that I only got the stuff in the first place thinking it would help me have nice white teeth for the wedding photos. Argh. *sigh* I've used Crest whitening strips in the past with no problems (but also not a hugely noticeable difference), though.
I need to find this stuff in australia... off to the supermarket tonight!
Today I went to my local CVS pharmacy, & bought the cvs brand of whitening trays. They are supposed to work over a period of 3 or 4 days. I love them! I can already see a difference. Also, do not use the Crest Pro-Health. It gave my FI & I brown spots as well.
