Mt poor baby is teething REALLY bad right now. He woke up at about 7am yesterday (the 18th) and then slept again from 4pm-6pm and then was hurting so bad that he still hasn't actually gone to bed. It's now 6am! The teething tablets I have were recalled so I can't use them and he can't hold his vibrating teether by himself yet because all they had were bigger ones for kids closer to a year old and he's only 5 months. That means my FI and I have to hold it for him while he chews on it. He has been napping off and on since about 1am but then he keeps waking up wanting to be held for awhile before trying to get more sleep. This is going to make for a really long day. At 9am my FI has court for a suspended license and then I work a 9 hour shift. I feel bad for my little boy because he's hurting and doesn't understand it but I wish he would go to sleep. My job NEVER sends people home early unless they are sick and even then it counts against you. If you never call in but leave before your lunch break they treat it as a call-in and if you wait until after lunch they count it as a half day missed. You can only miss 3 days every 6 months before getting written up and then, after another few days taken off, fired. I'm already at my limit because of having to miss for his appointments when they refuse to give me the day off. That means that after a sleepless night with my baby I have a full day of work ahead with no way of getting off early and then coming home to, most likely, another sleepless night. I haven't had a sleepless night since he was 4 weeks old. I'm starting to understand what most parents go threw with waking up every few hours...except they get SOME sleep. My poor little boy is watching his dad play Black Ops and chewing his fist right now. I guess I'll have to buy some teething gel when I get off work tonight because they don't carry any tablets anymore. I wish I could make it easier on him.

I'm so sorry, it sounds like you do have a tough couple days ahead of you.

Teething gel is probably worth a try!

Something else you could try is a frozen washcloth (wet it and then stick it in the freezer for a bit).  It would sorta numb the area while providing something to chomp on.

Granted, I'm not quite a mom yet, but I think I've read about moms who do that, even here on Weddingbee.

Hang in there... thankfully teething is just a phase (though a TOUGH one to get through, it seems!)

What about baby acetominopen?  Does that help any?  Could you and your Fi split baby duties tomorrow night?  Maybe you could take care of the baby until 1 am, and then he could take over?  I can totally commiserate with you; we've definitely had a few of these nights.  :(

We were both up all night because neither of us can sleep with the baby crying so we both took turns holding him and helping him with his teether. I got some teething gel that has a tube of daytime and a tube of nighttime in it so maybe that will help. If not I'll try the washcloth.

@Mrs. Spring: What is a baby acetominopen? I've never heard of it.

Like baby Tylenol?  But I don't think they sell baby Tylenol anymore; lately I only see the store brand.

I used the homeopathic remedy, Chamomile. Worked well.
