Also, if you haven't seen it before, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a GREAT movie. :)

If you've never seen it, I really like Metropolis. It's a silent film from the 1920's.

You can read about it on wikipedia:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolis_(film)

Anything with Irene Dunne and Cary Grant is usually light hearted and funny.  And Cary Grant is just so darn pretty ;)

I always suggest Forgetting Sarah Marshall because it's just a really funny comedy. One of my favorites, hands down.

@Mrsgurzakovic: The book was way, way better.  But the movie wasn't bad at all! Kind of a mindless comedy!

@Mrsgurzakovic: Something Borrowed is a great book.  Movie = not good (but I had also read the book and knew how bad they butchered it).  Definitely read it (Something Blue was better tho - the sequel)

I'm sure you've already seen the Twilight series, but of new releases, I liked Friends with Benefits.

Take The Reins    August 11, 2012   Canada

@Mrsgurzakovic: I loved it, I read the book after and was so glad I hadn't read it beforehand.

Lincon Lawyer was really good, Limitless was crazy, PS I love You is one of my fav's, as is the Guardian, Lord of the Rings is a great set to watch, as are the Bourne movies.  Matt Damon; amazing in those movies.

Just Go With It was cute, but typically Adam Sandler, I can only handle so much of him.  The Switch Up was hilarious (Ryan Reynolds, sigh), Horrible Bosses, Bad Teacher, pretty funny.  Life As We Know It, cute.

@Mrsgurzakovic: I thought Something Borrowed was mildly entertaining, and I watched while cleaning my house and doing dishes. I wouldn't recommend it to a friend, nor would I watch it again. I just couldn't take the lies and the betrayal with very few repercussions.

I would watch Bride Wars over this any day.

ETA: Check out IMDB's "top 250" list for good movie suggestions!

    - A Christmas Story

    - Home Alone

    - Friends (the TV show, on DVD)

    - Bridesmaids

    - The Breakfast Club

The best movie I've seen recently was The Wrestler. I didn't think I'd like it, but it was free on demand, so I gave it a shot. I really enjoyed it- the acting was impeccable... but it's definitely not a feel good movie.

    Others I've enjoyed recently:

    Ghostbusters

Singing in the Rain (I agree with PP!)

    Hot Fuzz

    Forgetting Sarah Marshall

    I Love You, Man

Up (youll cry yourself to sleep over that one)

    Once

Miss Pettigrew Lives for the Day

    Amelie

    A Little Princess

    Love Actually

    Across the Universe

In the Mood for Love - SO GOOD! It's slow paced, but so romantic and sultry without being graphic. And the music is AMAZING!

Now I want to see it again...here's a clip from youtube, so you get a feel of the movie.

FI and I saw "Our Idiot Brother" in the theater a while back, and it was so good.  It was just a happy movie.  I can't say I had any expectations when I went it, but I do really like Paul Rudd and wanted to see something light-hearted, but it was such a sweet and happy movie!! I laughed and cried and when it was over it just made me so damn happy!!

If your cable provider had On Demand, I recommend watching the revenge episodes before it comes back in January.  Very good show.  It's not that scary (I watch it at night while I'm home alone), but American Horror Story is pretty interesting to say the least!

Movies: Pride and Prejudice, Sex and the City, Inception, Elf, Easy A, and any movie where Jason Statham is kicking some ass (so hot!).

Pride & Prejudice definitely! If you haven't read the book, it highlights all of the great parts that you need to know.

If you're also up for something that will keep you on the edge of your seat, Inception was really good. My husband and I also thought The Social Network and The King's Speech were interesting.

Arsenic and Old Lace is a great old movie.

Here's the synopsis from imdb: "A drama critic learns on his wedding day that his beloved maiden aunts are homicidal maniacs, and that insanity runs in his family."

    Very weird and funny.

@Mrsgurzakovic: I enjoyed Secret Diary of a Call Girl, but it wasn't a must-watch for me. If you're feeling bored, it's a good filler show, though!

Have you watched Love Actually yet? Lots of PPs mentioned it but it's just sooooo good. You must watch it before Christmas!
