I’m very good about giving it my all once I’m at the gym but getting there has been a challenge this year. How do you stay motivated to workout or go to the gym often? What routine do you have in place or what do you do leading up to your workouts?

I roll out of bed, get dressed, brush my teeth, and drive to the gym or go for a run. This morning I did all that in 9 minutes. Not much of a routine!

I just do it- morning is better. Make it happen asap and feel great about it all day. I also have a wall calendar i put a sticker on when I work out and it’s weirdly rewarding to have a month full of stickers. And a kick in the butt to see a sad block of days with no stickers

I also get it done in the morning so then I can go about the rest of my day. I have all my stuff laid out before I go to bed to minimize the extra time required to get ready. I like to eat a lot, so I know I have to work out regularly or else I’ll be packing the pounds. Plus, I like distance running, so there’s a baseline fitness level to maintain to continue with that. RunnerBride13: Ditto. And I think as little as possible while doing it, but if i have to think, I try to remind myself that I’ll feel better all day if I go as opposed to if I go back to bed.
Going in the morning really helps. If I don’t do it then, it’s not happening.

I go to the bathroom, fill up a water bottle, and make sure I have my headphones.

and i follow a bunch of motivational instagrams and tumblrs and seeing other people with the dream body i’m aspiring for really helps me kick my ass outta bed.

I have a gym membership, so when I first started, I would tell myself that even if I go once a week for half an hour, I’ll be getting my money’s worth. I did that for the first month and that way,I slowly introduced it into my everyday life. The days I go to the gym, I put on my gym clothes about 30 mins before I go. That way, if I have any earnings for a netflix marathon, I tell myself “well I’m already dressed anyways!”. Hope that helps!

I’ve found it super helpful to have a friend to go with. I can ALWAYS come up with an excuse not to work out, but a commitment with a friend is much harder to wiggle out of. And there’s the added bonus of having someone to talk and hang out with, which makes it suck a lot less.

I have a very strict training programme and goals throughout the year (competitions mostly) so that keeps me focused. I also always snack before the gym. Going on an empty stomach sucks.

Morning is definitely better. Also, Fiance and I go to the gym together (and play tennis together). To actually get to the gym, or a fitness class, I really need to have someone else to be accountable to.
<br />When it comes to other things like biking to work, that’s stuff that I can motivate to do alone. I used to run often by myself, but I really hated doing it and I used up so much willpower doing that that I was usually way lazier through the rest of the day.

bluesparkles: I track all my workouts – I have a printed calendar and exact plan when and what workouts im doing. (I workout at home – so it is harder in a way to get motivated because i think gym sets your mind better on track). So I use stickers for every workout I do – sounds childish, but works for me.If I miss one, I will have to do it later, or next week, but I cant skip too many because it would be harder to catch up. I have done 2 woukouts in a day before – catching up lol.
I also have accountability buddy ( who is in a different country!) and we email each other weekly reports of our progress and how many workouts we do ( we have smilar programs, both run and do T25 program also did JM Body Revolution).
So my advice:
Clear plan + Accountability = winning recipe! ( I have been on it from March!!)

Following motivational instagram accounts is the trick for me. They usually make me feel bad about myself and get up and do something! Here is what I did today 🙂
