Commenting to save this thread! I’m also wondering what we can get for about $5K. I thought it was inexpensive but if some are staying at the Ritz for $5K….that doesn’t sound so bad!

You can get a LOT of mileage for $5k just about anywhere in the world if you stay at a smaller boutique hotel and rent a bicycle. Then spend the rest of your cash on massages, souvenirs, sailing trips …

We are just starting to plan out our European honeymoon on a $5,000 budget. Our wedding is May 23 next year, and we’re flying out the next day to Paris, staying there for 2 nights, then taking the train to Venice, Florence, and down to Rome. We’re then flying across to Athens, and ending in Santorini.

I’m thinking all in all, it’ll be 16 days when we account for flights and travel time. We got engaged this past June, but he was custom designing my ring for months before that, so I knew it was coming, We also knew we wanted to do a European honeymoon, and as such, I started saving up Air Miles points. In just over a year, I managed to rack up nearly 6,000 points, and hoping by the time we book later this year, I’ll have 8,000 points, which will get us about a week’s worth of hotel stays.

He is also saving using his credit card for travel points, and we’ll probably have a week’s worth of hotel stays on there too, so our 5 grand will go mainly towards the flight, food, leisure, and spending money.

I think our honeymoon probably totals about 5k, but we’re not paying that much.

My mom works for Disney so she gets a huge discount; we’re going to Disney World for the honeymoon. She paid for the resort (probably 1k for the week) and we’re paying for our Disney Dining Plan (with her discount makes it about $300 + tips) and we get into the parks for free (not sure how much the tickets cost because we never buy them). So really we’re just paying about 600 for food, our gas to drive to Florida, and any souveneirs/activities we want to do (which will be few.)

So a honeymoon for 5k is definitely doable, you just have to look at all your options!

We’re doing an eastern Caribbean cruise with a balcony for a week and doing a few days at Disney beforehand. Staying at the Contemporary which FI has been wanting to stay at since he was little. Shopping in Fort Lauderdale post cruise. Our biggest limitation is how much it is to fly anywhere from where I live. Airfare to Europe would be at least $2000 for the 2 of us. Airfare to Florida we can get (for 2) for around $1000 to $1500.

We took last year 2 weeks as pre-honeymoon vacation and we’ve seen South Africa and was amazing. We spent around $2400 for 2 tickets roundtrip from NYC to Johannesburg,SA and then JO- Cape Town round trip ( including travel insurance ) , the rest of the money ( another $2000-2500) we spent on food, lodging, travel, car rental and attractions and mostly lots of safaris .

cbj9: We did a week and a half in Mexico at an AI on Isla Mujeres, a tiny island off the coast of cancun (plus we had flights after that to our families home state before returning home).

$5000 got us 15 days in Turkey.. the catch was we went in early November when prices go WAY down for the off season. So we spent $1200 for our flights instead of $2000 or up.

And besides Istanbul, it was actually still pretty warm everywhere! I wore my swimsuit when we went to Pamukkale.
