@pinksprinkles:  Posting to follow, I’m curious as well! I saw pictures of Jade Mountain in St. Lucia but it looks super expensive but I’m not sure, it was definitely above our smaller budget! Have you considered Dominican Republic? I am in love with the Zoetry resort, which is expensive for DR, but seems cheaper than some other islands.

Haven’t been to AIs on any of your selected Islands…

BUT I have visited 3 of those countries… The Bahamas, US Virgin Islands &  St Lucia.  All are great IMO.  St Lucia is very exotic, and would be my first choice of the bunch.

On our last cruise to St Lucia, we went to Jalhousie Plantation (Sugar Beach Resort) to go snorkelling beneath The Pitons… what I could see of the Resort looked awesome.

You’ll find that Blogging Bee Mrs. Beanstalk has a fabulous couple of Blog Entries here on WBee about the Resort.

We went to the Beach to and fro on a boat from Casteries, so we passed a lot of the Bigger most known AIs and many looked GORGEOUS

Sandals La Toc looked especially inviting… I don’t think you can wrong with Sandals.

Although in all cases, I advise you to do your Homework / Research… TripAdvisor is a great sorce for Info, Reviews, and Rankings / Ratings… always very current.

As for the Virgin Islands, there are the US Virgin Islands, and the British Virgin Islands.  “Generally speaking” the British Islands are nicer (cleaner, safer etc).  BUT they are also more expensive than the USVI.  I haven’t been to any of the BVIs yet, but they are definitely on my MUST DO LIST.

USVIs, I’ve been to St Thomas and St John, but not to St Croix (yet… plan to go there on on our next Caribbean Cruise).

We enjoyed St-T and St-J, would go back… for a longer visit (7 to 10 Day Stay).  St-J was AWESOME.  St-T is very populated, and pretty.  And has most things Americans are used to (Chain Stores, Name Brand Restaurants etc).  BUT it isn’t the cleanest of islands… ok, just not great.  And there are some issues there with violent crime (vs many other Caribbean Islands).  However the Snorkelling was great !!

Turks & Caicos we haven’t been to yet… also on our MUST DO List.  It is supposed to be FABULOUS.  Downside tho is it “can be difficult to get there” (less so from Canada than the US), and it is very EXPENSIVE !!

Hope this helps (somewhat),

PS… I like your list.  And ya, my NO GO list is similar to yours.  Mr TTR & I wouldn not go back to Dominican Republic or Jamaica… for a long list of reasons.  The jury is still out on Mexico (well at least the Mayan Riviera and San Cabos).

We also haven’t been to Cuba yet (I bring this up cause it is often lumped into the list with the other 3 above… as it is a cheaper & popular Destination also).  We are OPEN to that… and would probably go for 2 Weeks… 1 in a Resort, and 1 in a Casa in Havana.  BUT I wouldn’t call it a LUXURY VACATION so probably not what you are looking for for a Honeymoon.  I think of Cuba as more of a middle of the road holiday, with a spot of adventure thrown into the mix (mostly because it can be a bit rough / rustic around the edges by North American Standards)

EDIT TO ADD – I see I messed up on your NO GO LIST abit (assumed DR was in the mix).  Instead I see you’ve actually got Puerto Rico.  First time I went to PR I wasn’t so jazzed on the Destination (it was a one-day Port of Call on our Cruise Itinerary).

For our Honeymoon tho we were there for 3 Days… and we LOVED IT.

So I wouldn’t be too quick to jump to any conclusions on that Destination.

I also see you are from WI, (and not Canada)… so Cuba may or maynot be on or off your list (depending on our sensibilities about the US Embargo).  Plenty of Americans go to Cuba on the QT by flying into Canada first (or from another Caribbean country).  As long as you aren’t one to advertise the fact that is where you actually went on vacation, it seems to work for many.

@pinksprinkles:  we did sandals grande st Lucia for our honeymoon! We both loved it! I have to say, we spent a lot- we got a rondaval room, one of the private huts with its own pool and hot tub and a butler but it’s more than you were looking to spend I think. It was about 10,000 for the room for a week. It was amazing though. If you want to know more PM me and I’ll give you more details about the room. The resort itself is nice- I wouldn’t do the other sandals on the island as the grande is the one that’s flat and going up and down a mountain all day didn’t seem appealing. The food was ok, it’s like cruise ship food. We did one tour and it was fun but if we went again I’d probably just stay at the resort as that’s what youre really paying for anyway.  Outside of the resort the island is fairly poor but we didnt feel unsafe on our tour. It is a beautiful place I would recommend it!

We stopped at Grand Turk for a day on a cruise last year – it was GORGEOUS. The water, the beaches… to die for. I definitely want to go back.

We recently stayed at the Now Larimar in the DR (not as a honeymoon) and it was really nice. Everything was clean, beautiful, and the staff was super friendly. The beach was really nice, and there was a lot of fun stuff to do. While we were there we went ziplining and parasailing. The down side (my personal opinion), was that the drinks were too sweet (I was the only person in our group that was really bothered by this though), and the food could have been better (it was pretty standard mass produced food though…along the same lines as cruise food). They were definitely willing to bend a lot on prices too and our 8 day trip was definitely less than $5000…closer to $3K.

I just got back from the Bahamas (Sandals) and we loved it.  There are a lot of things to do, although we didn’t do much since we wanted to relax after the wedding madness.  We’d love to go back for an anniversary though.  Everyone was super nice, the food was AMAZING, and it was gorgeous.  We also went to Atlantis to gamble one night, so that’s an extra option.

The Bahamas is less expensive than St. Lucia, and easier to get to.  We took a direct flight to Nassau and then it was a 15 minute shuttle ride to the resort.  Sandals in St. Lucia would’ve been a flight to Miami, then another flight to St. Lucia, then an hour and a half ride to the resort.  We didn’t want to spend that amount of money to spend an entire day traveling there and another day traveling back.  We also hate flying so that played a part in that decision lol.  I hear St. Lucia is awesome though – several friends have gone there on their honeymoon.

We got back two days ago from our 10-day honeymoon at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian and absolutely loved it! Everything about it was great: the food, the beaches, the pools, the drinks, the entertainment. We had a blast. It’s really easy to go and not spend any money since it’s all inclusive, but we ended up spending money on 4 different things, all of which were completely paid for on our registry (we only put those 4 things): land and sea tour, ziplining, candlelight dinner, and couples massage. There are 3 Sandals on the island, and the all-inclusive counts for all 3 resorts, so we took a shuttle and ate at the other resorts once each (but we liked ours by far the best).

I can’t say enough good things about the resort. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Like I said, we just got back, so I’m on a honeymoon high 🙂
