My venue is wine/beer only and they don’t do kegs for whatever reason. They only bring in how much alcohol I want, so if we run out… Tough cookies. How much bee r& wine for 100 people? How many drinks did you budget per person? 200 cans and 20 bottles? Im lost! Tell me about what you are doing/did!

@NY152: we have 120 people. We are also having mixed drinks though so my list from the caterer wouldn’t work for you. But I assume that you could get away with 30 bottles of wine and 8 cases of beer ?
you know your crowd best

- Wedding: August 2013 - Rocky Mountains USA
Evite has a great drink calculator – google that.
I’m getting waaay for booze than that for ~125 people… but our friends like to party and we can stay at the venue until the wee hours. Probably 4 kegs and 50 bottles of wine?
eta: FI just said 8 kegs, very seriously.

Did anyone worry about the legal issues of providing your own?

Can you call around to your local liquor stores to find out if any will let you return unused bottles of wine and liquor? That’s what we did, so we purchased what ended up being way more than we needed and didn’t have to worry that we’d run out.

@whitenights: Did you buy wedding insurance? We’re you concerned with the liability of providing it yourself?
We didn’t buy any insurance…we didn’t really give it any thought, to be honest. The caterer we hired let us bring our own alcohol and recommended a store they work with often. They did require that the alcohol be purchased from a store in DC (where the wedding was) because it’s illegal to bring alcohol across state lines. Are you worried about the liability of people drinking and driving? Or just anything that can happen when people drink too much?

@lolot: Haha, yes.. my FI said 6.. however, I wouldn’t put it past his friends… We are providing all of the alchohol for our guests.. but we have a guest list of 300 or more.. so I am thouroughly confused as to how much to provide… We are going to guess and hope for the best!

This is a rough calculation for 30 party people who will be walking to their hotel rooms (destination wedding). I had a chart with price per unit and totals but it doesn’t show up on here so I had to edit and just share estimated quantities.

@NY152: This really depends on how long the reception will be, what time of day, what day of the week, etc.
Evite Drink Calculator is really helpful! http://www.evite.com/pages/party/drink-calculator.jsp’ defer=’defer
