After two forays into dress shops, I’m already pretty sick of the whole wedding dress experience! The massive price tags and the pressure from the salespeople with the whole “bigger is better” with regards to dresses is driving me nuts! I’m happy to go in and try on dresses to see what suits, but I doubt I’m going to find something I like at a price I’d be willing to spend.
So, long story short, I’m looking into online wedding dress websites. I don’t care about dresses made by a designer, and no one I know will care whether my dress is made my Maggie Sottero or someone in China! I’m not interested in a dress that will ‘last’ given that I’m only wearing it for one day.
So has anyone had any experience with buying a dress online? How was the experience? Any site you would recommend, or tell me to stay away from? Even if you just know someone that did buy a dress online, let me know how they went

I saw a dress in a shop I loved and it was nearly two grand. I really don’t care enough about what I will look like to spend that sort of cash. This sounds silly but I really don’t. I want to look good, yeah, but the way I see it I am going ot love my day anyway and I know peopel will like the way I look.
SO I went and looked online for a similar dress. I saw it. I bought it. it was £250.00 with delivery… so, yeah alot less than what the woman in the place wanted me to pay £1995.00 a price she seemed to think was acceptable. I was pretty flippant about the dress-buying I think, mainly because of my dress-shop experience. These women SCARE me. I am not a girly girl (but not a tom boy either) and although my parents are halping ALOT on the payments I do NOT want to spend that much on a dress. I do not, in ANYWAY think people who DO are silly or naughty or whatever, I think it is entirely personal – I know lots of people who have spent a fortune and looked AMAZING. But I didn’t wana.
So I got this dress off a wedding site called http://www.inweddingdress.com/ and it came quickly etc. It asks you for exact measuremewnts so it will be a custom fit (though I would imagine it would need a bit of tounching up at some point).
I have not yet seen the dress- I was moving across the country for a job so wasn’t sure where I would be when it arrived so delivered it to my mum and dads. Mum and sister opened it and went BESERK. They say the quality is amazing – just like the one i tried on and that it is simply marvelous. They are waaaay more discrening than me – i am more ‘it’s all right, it will do’ and I totalyl trust them in that it is amazing. My sis thinks it is the exact same dress. So I would wholeheartedly recommend it! I previously bought a bridesmaids dress online for my friends wedding from lightinthebox and the quality was superb which made me think that it was worht the risk. If you are worried maybe get a cheaper option – like a bridesmaids dress you like and order it to see the quality/workmans ship etc.
I am going to see my dress next week! I cannot wait!!

I bought my dress online but I bought it from Ebay. It was a store sample from a store that went out of business. I personally had a wodnerful experience and LOVE my dress. It is a Maggie Sottero and it retails for aroung $1500+ but I bought it for $500. I know it is not an exclusive wedding gown shop but I think it was a great choice for me. The only thing I was nervous about was not having tried the dress on before I bought it. I literally never tried the style I bought on but when it came in I was IN LOVE!

@LadyElva: Check out the Jasmines Bridal Shop thread on this forum if you are really interested in buying on-line. I don’t think you will need any convincing after reading and seeing the photos of the dresses at various stages of production.

@mecattacow: Fantastic!! I’m so excited for you finding such a bargain! I’ll definitely be checking them out! Please post some pics of the dress when you get it 🙂
@miss narwhal: Yeah, I’m thinking of trying ebay once I’ve got a bit more of an idea what I should be wearing – second hand dresses, or a cheaper place to buy them would be great!
@Aussiemum: Thanks Aussiemum – woo! Another Aussie! I’ll definitely have a look at the thread and see what everyone else thinks.
I did have a look at some online shop threads on here, but most of the positive reviews came from members with only one post and were all in the same style of writing, so I suspect someone may have made a few accounts to promote their dress site….

I was on a SUPER tight budget and didn’t want strapless…so that ruled out, oh, 97% of dresses. Looking online was far less tortorous. Good thing I did, because my dress was an “online-only style” from David’s Bridal…and I didn’t have to deal with the very hit-and-miss customer service I’ve heard about with DB!
