I’m not honeymooning in Italy but I was in Rome & Florence for 2 weeks last year if you’re in need of recommendations for either of those cities 🙂

@yehyehgirl:  part of my honeymoon is in Rome.

We are stayin at the Albergo del Senato which is across from the Pantheon. I’m so excited!! I haven’t booked anything to do there yet, but I did want to go to the Vatican And to see the Coloseum. So very excited!!!

The rest of our honeymoon is for a cruise and the we are going to Barcelona after. I cannot wait

@yehyehgirl:  I went to Italy during a month trip around Europe 6 years ago in May/june. It was really hot in Rome, loved all the ruins. Went to Florence and Venice. Recommend reading up on lots of history, especially for Rome, so you will know the significance of what you are looking at.

Honeymoon is:

Where are you going & when? Florence, Rome, Venice, Mykonos, Crete, Santorini, Athens. Going late April to late June.
What features did you look for in your accomodations? Cheeeeeeeap. We are going for almost 2 months so staying at hostels and camping.
What excursions and activities are you planning? Exploring the main sites in Italy. Snorkelling in Greece.
What are you most excited about?  (Food, wine, museums, churches, landscape, architecture, particular sites, etc) The photos! We are both photographers. Love the architecture in Italy. Pretty landscapes in Greece.
What are you doing to prepare? Researching the best sites, looking into places to stay, transportation.
Anything else you fancy sharing! Looking forward to it! Trying to make the most out of the trip as the flights are pricey and when we get back we will start TTC so might be awhile before we get to go on another trip.

Fun fun! We’re honeymooning in Italy, too! We haven’t ironed out all the details just yet, but:

Where are you going & when? Still need to book flights, but planning to fly into Milan. Staying for a week along the coast, near the Cinque Terre but not directly within it: Framura and Portofino. We still need to figure out the other 5-7 days, but will probably hit up Rome and Florence.
What features did you look for in your accommodations? For what we’ve booked so far, we really wanted something with a homey feel so we could experience typical Italian life. So, we scoured VRBO and found some really unique properties!
What excursions and activities are you planning? We’re staying on an olive farm for four days and will be taking cooking classes, lounging and just enjoying ourselves! But the location is also ideal for day trips, so we’ll do plenty of sightseeing, too.
What are you most excited about? (Food, wine, museums, churches, landscape, architecture, particular sites, etc) Food, no doubt. So excited to gain 20 pounds. But we’re also just excited to be going since neither of us have been and it’s at the top of our bucket list.
What are you doing to prepare? Right now I’m so preoccupied with Christmas and the wedding that I feel like honeymoon planning is falling by the wayside. Luckily, we chose to take a belated honeymoon (our wedding is a somewhat destination one) so we’ll have a few months in-between to finalize the nitty gritty details.
Anything else you fancy sharing! Super excited–can’t wait to see what other people share since I need ideas! 🙂

We are going to Florence and Rome in May 2014. I’ve been to both before but FI hasn’t. I adored Florence so I really wanted to go there but Rome also has some really interesting things. I know we are seeing the Vatican, Uffizi, David, Coloseum, Forum, etc. We aren’t really doing anything to prepare…just talking about how much gelato we will eat!

After Italy we are taking a Ferrari through the Alps and then finishing with a few days in Paris.

@yehyehgirl:  Yeah! A ‘somewhat’ destination wedding being that we’re traveling but my fiance’s parents happen to live there. Our families are so spread out that, unless we chose relatively neutral ground, one family or the other would’ve had to travel. So we chose Savannah because it’s where we met while in college and now everyone’s making a vacation of it. We booked the trip for the very end of June into July (whoops, forgot to include that before!) and figure it’s for the best since the weather will be better!

A coworker of mine went to Italy this past September and adored her time–said the weather was perfect. I bet you’ll have an incredible time! Where are you getting married? Glad you made this thread because it’s gotten me excited all over again!

@yehyehgirl:  Yes, exactly. Rome has some “must see” things but otherwise the city didn’t do much for me. Florence is amazing though. The Ferrari was actually my idea and my FI has taken to it quite well. It gives me a chance to see some more of Europe while allowing FI to drive a supercar – perfect! We are only in Paris for two nights. We plan to do the basics like the Eiffel tower and the Louvre. Ive never been to Paris so I think just soaking in the city will be fun!

@yehyehgirl:  My fiance did the booking, so I’m not 100% sure. I know that we splurged on this hotel because we are only spending 2 nights in Rome and we ended up getting an inside cabin for the cruise, so we wanted something nicer for the hotel. I think that he did though, and we requested one that faces the Pantheon.

Did you book any type of tours yet? I’m interested in any recommendations that you can give. We are basically spending 2 full days in Rome, so we wanted to get in as much as possible during those 2 days. I’ve already been to Rome before, but my fiance has never been.

For what it’s worth, I did like Florence better than I liked Rome. But our cruise started in Rome and ends in Barcelona, so we are bookending it with hotel stays in each city.
