I’m 39 weeks + 4 and today I had my first membrane sweep! I am 1-2 cm dialated, 60% effaced. So far I have had some cramping/stabbing pains in the belly. And I had some pink mucusy discharge. I had my sweep about 4 hours ago and I’m just wondering what to expect.

I was like 38+5 weeks, had mine scrapped at like 1 pm at my appointment. I was about 3ish cm and I can’t remember how effaced I was. I was back in the hospital the next day in full blown labor. I also had cramping and bloody discharge after.

Crampiness and some pinkish/brownish discharge is common. Usually with first-time pregnancies, the first (or second, or even third) membrane sweep won’t put you in labour, but it could. Try to have a bath, stay hydrated and take it easy, and of course call your care provider if you have any major concerns!

I had 2, one at 40 weeks and one at 41 weeks. They both caused me to lose a bit of mucus plug, the first one was just a little bit but I bled a lot, the second one I barely bled but I lost my whole plug the next day. After that I just had pink bleeding/discharge and lots of cramping. I went in to labour the day after my 41 week sweep.

@cdncinnamongirl: That’s interesting that you say to stay hydrated because my urine was really dark this morning… it was almost brownish.
