@lina010:  Centerpieces *cringe* thankfully there are no pics.

Other than that I already have no ability in my DIY talent so I pretty much left it alone.

I kinda wish I hadnt completely DIYd my invitations. Im happy enough with them but it cost just as much to DIY as to professionally print and they would have looked a little bit better. I thought Id save money as it was a simple large bow design but ribbon costs and it cost loads. Plus it took me HOURS over christmas.

OMG  I haven’t even had my wedding yet and I wish we would just quit trying to DIY the centerpieces. I am so over it, nothing looks right. Now we are too far in…can’t seem to stop.

Fabric flowers. They did turn out reasonably pretty but they caused a lot of unneeded stress. It would have been better to just get some inexpensive grocery store flowers and make some hand-tied bouquets.

@lina010:  Everything!  I DIY’d my invites, centerpieces, escort cards, table numbers, favors, etc.  Don’t get me wrong, I was happy with the results BUT I was soo stressed with everything leading up to the wedding that I feel like I should have just let go of the reigns and enjoyed the ride.  Costwise, I probably spent more trying to DIY than if I would have just let my vendors take care of it, not to mention all of the hours I put into it.  After everything was said and done, it really hit me how little all of that stuff really mattered the day of (even though everyone told me, I wasn’t willing to listen).  I had fun & everything was beautiful but if I were to relive the whole experience with the knowledge I have now, I probably would have let someone else do all of the work and just shown up the day of rested and ready to party!

(I purchased all of the candy & decorations for the candy bar and borrowed the containers from my florist)

@leecy87:  Ditto. Even though our invitations turned out absolutely beautiful, I would have done way less on these DIY wise. They were SOOO MUCH WORK and not any cheaper than had I ordered maybe a PDF design off Etsy and self printed, I could have then mounted them on card stock and folders etc. Instead my MOH and I designed every single card in word, went through printing them the correct way, cutting every peice, gluing, etc… At least not designing the wording myself would have saved me some time.

Probably everything else paid off and was a pretty easy project.

We’re currently working on the invitations….so I can say the my FI and I both vote for invitations. We honestly just made them too complicated and its taking us a whole week to work on them after work (and chores).

LOL my FI said “if I ever get married again I’m going to pay to have these made next time” and my response was along the lines of “why can’t we have had them made for THIS wedding then!” lol he was too cheap to pay for invites until he had to start working on them with me.

Boutonnières. I made the bouquets for myself and my BM, and thought I’d make the bouts for all of the people who needed them. They turned out okay, but I stressed over how the looked, and still do now. I kept wanting to add more florishes to the callas, when I should have just left them plain. Oh well, can’t do anything about it now!

Another vote for invitations! It was so much work and in the end I’m pretty sure it would have been cheaper to have a professional do it.

Hmm. Interesting responses. I know I have to DIY a lot cause our wedding will be very um, modest. But I’m wondering if I may ditch the whole invatation idea, take it to someone who knows what they are doing and call it a day.

Our wedding hasn’t happened yet, and while some of the DIY is turning out awesome (my dress!! it’s perfect!!!), some of it is sort of… hmmm…

Table decorations – we’re having a light lunch with a bunch of bistro tables set up. I thought to make a bunch of folded paper “mountains” that I saw in a Martha Stewart mag… and maybe it would have worked out but I never really had time to make them. I did have one “craft night” with girls from church, but we only finished ~10 and I think I’d need more like 100 to make it worth it. And of course I didn’t just do a test run, I got ALL of the paper I’d need (in the form of pages from travel books), and probably spent ~$30 on it. Oops!

Bridesmaid headbands – I made flower crowns for the bridesmaids out of silk flowers. They turned out very cute, but the vibe seems off somehow, so I probably won’t use them. I went sort of crazy with the silk flowers, too – I’m probably out ~$40 there. Maybe I will still run the idea by them. But if they say no I’m not going to push it.

Groomsmen ties – I was going to DIY these, and I did buy fabric for them. I started getting pretty stressed out and decided it was one of the projects that needed to go. They probably would have turned out well… but I’m relieved to not have to do them! Sigh!

Ambitious fake trees for ceremony from scratch – HA HA HA. Never going to happen! Ack!!!
