I purchased a gown, but now I changed my mind about it so I am tryng to sell it. A buyer who wrote to me wanting to buy, I even lowered the price for her but she is willing to pay the original asking price +shipping even though she is from my local area and I offer that she should come to try on and take a look before she buy and I only accept cash if pick up in person, if she wants to ship then I prefer via paypal. But if I was going to pay for an item with check, its just like paying cash, I would come and take a look at the gown if the bride is in my local area. Also several thousands is not like $50.

She said her FI will write a check and they will send FEDex to come and pick up the package, so as soon as I receive the check please mail it out to her. I told her I only accept cash or paypal.

    Cash: pick up in person

Paypal: I will ship so there will be tracking information added to prove it was delivered

no casheer check neither because they can call the bank to cancel the casheer check.

What are you thought to this?

i would definetly tell her only cash or paypal only.  it very well could be a scam, and why you don't want to accuse or assume it is a scam, you also want to protect yourself as well. if she's unwilling to do it your way, then don't sell it to her.

Your post is a little confusing. But if I get the gist, if she's unwilling to do your methods of secure payment, don't sell it to her. It seems odd and since you're talking about an expensive purchase it's better to be safe than sorry.

Agreed! sounds like a scam to me. If she really wanted your dress she would go out of her way to pay with paypal ro come pick it up in person. so much easier than mailing a check!

I said for protection of the buyer and seller only two forms of payments are accepted from me. Also why wouldn't she worry that I take her check, cash it and dont ship the dress to her? why wouldnt't she want protection as a buyer if the item dont look like the description, or she never receive the dress?

while I dont know I just have to be cautious and yeah I want her to have the same protection I have for the transcation

a common scam is to say:

my fi will write a check and i'll send a mailing label and fedex to pick it up. my fi got confused about the vendors and wrote the check for the wrong amount. can you send me a check for the difference?

then their check doesn't clear, but yours to them does.

this sounds like exactly what she's doing.

Sounds kind of suspicious to me too. You're right to insist cash or PayPal only.

@Simplicitydal: for future reference, if the grammar/english is terrible, she doesn't ask for more pictures or descriptions of the dress, or won't pay how you ask it's probably a scam!

@kitzy: her grammar/English is terrible, and she buying a several thousands dollar dress is like buying $30 T-shirt. She is from Arlington TX, I am from Dallas TX. 40 mins drive. its crazy

OMG, I came accross another fraudulent from oncewed.com. I had a potential buyer who contacted me to buy the gown that I have listed on oncewed. This person is a man and by the name of Greg Ellis, he wants to buy the gown to suprise his FI, this sounds strange because he didn't even ask for actual photo of the gown and wanted to buy the gown at whatever price i would be asking. He also is at sea because he is an onceanographer and do not have access to online banking but have access to paypal which is linked to his bank. Anyways, he wants to pay me $950 over the amount of the gown and asked me to help transfer $950 to his wedding planner  via western union who will be te recipient of the gown since she needs to get paid and doesn't have paypal. This whole ordeal just sounds more like a scam than anytihng so i told the buyer that sorry i can not proceed with this transaction. Sellers out there please be ware of such suspicious buyers who always come up with some scenarios and trying to take ur time and even additional money from you.

Who knows how mant way people can make a fake paypal transaction looks real, so do call to check with paypal first before you ship anything to anyone.

yup, definitely a scam. i had the same experience that you described when i sold my first dress. luckily before i got sucked in, i had a real buyer who got back to me much  more quickly and was more than willing to pay with paypal!

I recommend using escrow.com for payment if you have any doubts about the buyer. They charge a 3.5% commission but ensure that the transaction is perfectly safe. You don't ship the dress until funds have cleared, and escrow.com holds onto the funds until the buyer receives and accepts the dress, so both parties are protected.

Yep - it's a scam,  someone else posted about this a couple of months ago - exact same thing happened to her and she later found it was a scam.

Scam!!!!! This is common trick for lots of transactions... they send a check, ask you to mail the item and then they either stop payment or their check doesnt clear!

The only way I would accept a check is to not send the dress to them until the check has cleared the bank.  You could take the check, call the bank to see if the money is there and then run it to their bank to cash it.  Otherwise, cash only.  I don't even like Paypal as the buyer can file a claim stating that it "wasn't as described".  Paypal always takes their side and seller loses.
