We just had our cake tasting appointment yesterday and now I am CRAVING my cake! We’re doing a 3-tiered cake with 3 different flavors: White Cake w/White Chocolate Mousse and Fresh Strawberries, Lemon Cake w/Toasted Coconut Mousse and Chocolate Cake w/Dulce De Leche Mousse…..YUMMM!

That sounds yummy! My FI and I aren’t cake people per se….but we are CHEESE cake people. We are going to try to incorporate that as our cake served. Maybe different flavors with different topings…not sure yet. 🙂

we’re having two flavors…marble cake with chocolate ganache and white cake with raspberry mousse. i can’t wait to eat the marble cake.

We had our cake tasting a couple months ago and I can’t wait. We are doing a 4-tier wedding and I am surprising my FI with a groom’s cake. We’re having:
top and bottom tier – white cake with strawberries
next layer – spice cake with bavarian cream
3rd tier – chocolate with chocolate chips and bavarian cream (my favorite of the 3)
Then I am surprising my FI with a groom’s cake. He really wanted guava in our cake. Odd huh…lol. I don’t care for guava and I think it’s an obscure taste. I figured our guests would feel the same. His heart was broken when I told him I didn’t think our guests would like it. I felt bad telling him this. I thought why not make his groom’s cake with the filling as guava slices (my wedding cake baker is the best). She’s also making it a Chicago Cubbies theme since my FI is from there. I’m looking forward to the look on his face when he sees it.

We had our cake tasting three weeks ago and our cake is vanilla bean pound cake with raspberry filling and cream cheese icing…and here is the BIG secret…it is being made by a grocery store bakery and is costing us around $100 for a full sheet cake! This bakery is known for its delicious cakes and I was THRILLED to find a delicious cake at such a reasonable price. Groom’s cake is mini-chocolate cupcakes with chocolate fudge icing that a gal that I work with makes for parties, weddings, etc.

Mmmm….toasted coconut…..dulce de leche…..sounds delicious! We’re doing a lemon sour cream cake with three layers of fillings – the top and bottom are strawberry buttercream with a thin layer of strawberry preserves, and the middle layer is orange buttercream. We are having the same for all five layers. My FMIL told FI (who weeks later told me) that she will be ordering the groom’s cake, which will be served at the rehearsal dinner. One less thing for me to do….but I hope it’s chocolate!

Our’s is two tiers of white cake with raspberry filling, and two of yellow cake with lemon filling. Yum!

We haven’t chosen our final flavors but here is what we’re hoping for — will be trying some of them out at our cake tasting in a few months! Oh and we’re doing a cake buffet, hence the insane amount of flavors =):
– Creme Brulee
– White chocolate w/ fresh raspberry
– Lemon cake with mango mousse
– Tiramisu (our custom requested flavor since it’s our favorite dessert…I’m hoping it turns out well in cake form!)
– Dark chocolate mint
– Vanilla lemon cake infused with green tea and lemon zest with honey green tea buttercream
– Dark chocolate and Brazillan espresso w/ chocolate ganache + mocha buttercream
The super neato thing is that my cake baker is a frequent competitor on Food Network Cake challenges…it was actually something I discovered after booking her, but it’s kind of cool seeing her on tv. She’s going to be on that Last Cake Standing competition…which is why I think she won’t be in store when we do our tasting, haha!

So far I’m most intrigued by chocolate truffle grand marnier … haven’t attended any tastings yet. So I have no clue if I’ll love it or not! I do looove chocolate though.

We’re doing a dessert buffet:
- blueberry, peach, cherry, and Dutch apple pies
- New York style cheesecake with a mini topping bar – cherry, raspberry, and chocolate sauce
- cakes – lemon raspberry, carrot cake with cheesecake frosting, and chocolate with buttercream frosting

Our cake will be chocolate fudge cake with raspberry and dark chocolate ganache fillings. Yum!

Our cake was a 3-layer marble with strawberry creme filling! Or did we have ganache for one of the layers? I do remember that it was delicious though! 🙂
