Last week I was in bed and DH was in the bathroom brushing his teeth. I closed my eyes for 20-30 seconds and when I opened them both of our bedside table lights were on. He hadn't moved from the bathroom and I know the cats didn't move from the bed (they were snuggled up with me). It FREAKED me out. If I think rationally I know that there was probably just a glitch in the outlet but it was still so weird.

That is my (freaky for me) story, although I have more!

Share yours bees! I love a good scary story!

I swear, this will sound crazy but it is true.

I used to live in an OLD house in our very historic town. The upstairs was renovated into an apartment. So one day I'm sitting on the couch watching some TV. To my right was the doorway to the bedroom. And if I turned my head I could see the other TV sitting in there up against the wall. So as I'm engrossed in the Ellen show I hear something making a rattling sound. I had a candle plate sitting on top of the TV in the bedroom with one of those really big three wick candles on top of it. The whole plate was rattling and moving. It seriously shimmied and rattled all the way off the top of the TV and fell to the floor. NOTHING else in that apartment moved. I ran out. lol

The second time something happened I was sleeping and I use both my phone alarm, plus my bedside alarm to wake up. So apparently the next morning I woke up only to find that either my alarm clock didn't go off, or I turned it off, and my cell phone was gone from the bedside table. I found it in the middle of the kitchen floor (on the other side of the apartment) turned off. So freaky!

It was in this same apartment too that my niece would never stay in the living room. She was lke 5 at the time. She told me she didn't like it in there with that "man" in the room. That about gave me a heart attack!

Oooooh, I love threads like this!  I recently joined a local paranormal investigation group I found on meetup.com so hopefully I can share some more interesting stories soon.  Nothing too scary has really happened to me unfortunately.  I remember when my oldest child was a toddler and he always played in our furnished basement.  He wasn't talking very well at the time, but he was constantly staring up into this one corner up in the ceiling, pointing & laughing and babbling away at "something."  It was very weird.  And in that same house we had a motion detector light set up in the dining area (former owners did that for some reason).  You could be absolutely still and sometimes it would flicker on its own.  If I was upstairs I would swear I'd hear someone calling my name, but nobody else would be home but me & him (or his dad would be all the way down in the basement, and he said it wasn't him).

My father is a non-believer in anything paranormal/supernatural, the biggest skeptic in the world.  But after my mom passed away in our family home where he still lives, he had some strange experiences.  He was in bed and woke up suddenly to the feeling that someone was laying next to him, breathing quietly.  To see my dad get kind of quiet and unsure when he tells this story, makes me wonder......but I've never had any experience with my mom coming back to tell me something.  I wish she would though.

ETA:  My house with the basement was only 7 years old and the folks we bought it from were the first and only other tenants.  Weird.

When I was about 15 I stayed over at a friend's house to keep her company while her parents were away. So it was just us two in the house, her three dogs were outside. We were sitting in her bedroom just watching a movie when we heard footsteps directly above us (there's an upstairs hallway above her bedroom). We paused the movie, got super freaked out and then decided it was just the old house being old and creaky. But then they started again, much louder, and very obviously FOOTSTEPS not just a house creaking. We grabbed a baseball bat and ran upstairs to check it out, but there was nothing there. We stayed awake all night after that, and heard it twice more.

Most terrifying night of my life.

@AudzinLuv: Ohhhh, that last one about your dad gave me goose bumps! My grandmother was at home when my grandfather passed away at the hospital late one night. She swears that the doorbell rang out of nowhere and when she got up and looked outside, no one was there. About a minute later, the phone rang and it was my uncle telling her my grandfather had passed. I think it was his one final stop before heading up to the big blue. :o)

I was also sitting in the library once at college. Not one other person was around me. There was a guy on the computers way across the room, but that was it. Where I was sitting my back was to the micro-film rooms. I opened one of my books to start studying and I heard someone whisper my name. It sounded like they were right next to my ear. The hair on my neck stood up and I turned around at break neck speed to find..... nothing. I never went back.

When we bought our house, we started renovating the master bathroom and one bedroom to make a nursery.  The Master bedroom, master bath, and the nursery are all connected, and there's no way to get to nursery without going through the master bedroom and bath.  Anyway, weird things started happening after the renovations were completed, and we had Addie.  We have her baby monitor on all the time, and we've heard voices and singing over it; you can turn off the monitor and still hear the singing coming from her room, but walk into the room and it's totally quiet.  A couple of times I've heard my name.  Addie also has this lights/music projector toy strapped to the side of her crib which has turned on three different times when nobody was even in the room.  A book fell off her dresser one time, when there was no way it should have moved.

Last night I was changing Addie in her room with the lights off, and I heard footsteps in the bathroom, coming toward the nursery.  I saw a shadow figure, and thought it was my husband, so I started talking to him.  He wasn't even upstairs!  He was downstairs, asleep on the couch.  It freaked me out, but I just remind myself that this ghost has never done anything to harm us; it's a friendly ghost, lol!

    @Mrs.tobe: I can believe that.

I named the ghost at my mom's place "Casper".  We had a rocking chair that was rocking by itself and I looked over and said "Casper, stop it" or something like that, and it stopped, lol.  He would find ANYTHING you asked, flashlights, my son's pacificers he'd lose, etc and put it where you'd looked DOZENS of times already.  We would also smell vanilla pipe tobacco (no one smoked pipes) or lilacs (in the dead of winter and NO ONE had that kind of perfume.)

I've also SEEN a ghost before, so, yeah, totally believe in them.

Back when I was in middle school I had a friend whose older sister was a photographer and she was setting out on a month long photography trip on the Appalacian trial by herself.  She was going to be on her own for a week and then was to meet up with her friend in Georgia.

Anyways.  She starts out on this trip and is taking all of her nature pictures (her pictures are amazing!).  She's walking the trail but keeps getting this creepy feeling like someone is watching her, but she kind of brushes it off.  She goes three nights on her own and on the 4th day is just so creeped out because she keeps getting this weird feeling, so she hikes to the nearest town and catches a bus to meet up with her friend where they finish the trip together.

When she returns a couple of months later she is in the darkroom processing her first couple rolls of film from her first couple of days she was by herself.  She hangs all of the pictures and steps out of the darkroom to get lunch as they dry and process.  When she walks back in the darkroom she's immediately confused, gets closer to the photographs and sees that about 20 of them are of her SLEEPING!

@Mrs. Spring: you should look into the history of your house.  you might be able to find out who the person/people are, which could be kinda fun!

I used to check out books at the library on scary but true ghost stories.  some of those were pretty freaky! LOL!

@Mrs.tobe: That happened to me at work once. I was by myself in the office and I swear I heard someone whisper my name. Of course... there was no one there. Thankfully it was towards the end of the day so I packed up and ran the hell out of the office. WTFFFF!

I just tell myself I imagined it. (But I'm pretty sure I didn't!)

Well, I keep telling myself it's a friendly ghost; I don't know if I believe it yet, lol.  I've heard that renovations can stir up supernatural activity, so I think that might be why things suddenly got started in that room after we had already owned the place for a year.

@AudzinLuv:  It's so cool that you're going to be a real-life ghost hunter!  you have to come back and share your stories!

@Zinzerena: My mom told me a good ghost story a few years ago. When I was really little, like maybe 3 or 4, I had an "imaginary friend" who I called "My friend Ghost". Apparently I talked about "my friend ghost" constantly as if we did everything together. My mom never thought anything about it, she just thought I had a good imagination until she came into the basement where I was playing and I was sitting on my rocking horse just babbling on and on as if I was talking to someone next to me. My brothers rocking horse was just a few feet away and was rocking back and forth by itself... She went back upstairs, called my dad and begged him to come home early she was so freaked out.

The first part isn't exactly ghost related, but I feel like it all connects.  I am the youngest child in my family and the only girl, definitely a daddy's girl.  Before my dad passed away, I was the only one who hadn't had any private time with him to say goodbye.  My mom and my older brothers had all said their goodbyes already while he was still conscious.  He slipped into a coma and was to be moved to hospice that day.  I finally got up the courage to ask my mom to let me have some private time with my dad.  As soon as I was done talking to him, my dad started having seizures.  I had literally just stopped talking and was sitting there to gather myself before I let my family back in.  He was gone within two hours.  Soon after, I had a dream where I was at a party with friends from work.  In the middle of this big crowd of friends laughing and talking, was my dad.  I saw him very clearly and still remember exactly what he was wearing.  He had the biggest grin on his face that he reserved only for me and was just waving at me.  I really felt like he waited to go until we all got to say goodbye, and that that was his goodbye to me because he couldn't communicate with me before he died.

My mom also had experiences after he died, where she would sometimes feel a weight on his side of the bed and sometimes wake up to feel like he was holding her.  We never asked my brothers if they had any experiences like these.

I have some friends who live in a very old house right now and have had tons of very creepy experiences.  They always get woken up to odd things around 3am.  The other night they both heard the same whisper at different times.  They said it sounded like someone was whispering, "human".  Ugh!!

I don't have anything all that scary but I did "see" a ghost once.

I woke up in the middle of the night and there was something sitting next to the bed. At first I thought it was FI playing a trick on me, but the I looked over to his side of the bed and he was there asleep.

I looked back to my side of the bed and there was an old woman sitting there, looking and me and speaking to me (but I couldn't hear what she was saying). She was kind of misty and quasi-transparent.

I woke FI up to look at her and when I turned back after waking him up, she was gone.

There was nothing between the bed and the wall that could have looked like a person.

Gives me goosebumps to this day.

@Gingersnap: that's so awesome!  Children are supposed to be able to communicate with the supernatural better than adults because they don't have the predjudice that adults have.  aka they're more receptive!

As for the "name said", that happened ALL the time as a kid.  Someone would yell my name or my brother's but wouldn't reply when we yelled back.  It wouldn't be my parents or grandparents, either.  We'd usually be playing in the driveway (my parents live about a 1/8" of a mile from the road surrounded by woods).

We'd also hear a car coming up the driveway around the time of year a guy was shot in the orchard near my parent's place.  We'd think it was our grandfather coming home from work, but no car would ever show up at our place & the sound would stop.  He supposedly committed suicide, but he shot himself in the head with the wrong hand and there was NO GUN around, either. NONE.  (can anyone say "murder" and "cover up"? LOL)

@Mrs. Spring: Yup, renovations will do it A LOT.

Here's a question for ya.  Did spirits/ghosts have anything to do with this?  The area folk said it was spirits angry the high school was renovated:  The same year my former high school was renovated, they had TONS of "odd" problems and, worse yet, several kids died tragically in car accidents.  THE SAME YEAR.

I've had a few things happen, but I've tried really hard to block them out. I think the less receptive you are the less a) your mind plays tricks and b) if something is "out there" it's going to leave you alone. I dunno. As a kid I have very vivid memories of flying though. Like, not "around", but in my bedroom at my grandma's house. By flying I mean more like flips and being in the air. I remember doing it all the time, then one day it stopped. I don't know what it was, but it wasn't a dream. I was legit sad to discover I couldn't do it anymore. I think maybe if there was a ghost there he/she/it was just goofing off with a little kid spinning me around.

    I LOVE this thread! lol

I have two stories/experiences, the first started when I was 13 and we moved into an older home where at the back of the lounge room was the hallway which went around a corner and went off to all the bedrooms, several times whenever I was home alone at night or the last one to go to bed I would be watching tv and I would see something in the corner of my eye and turn to see a little blonde girl in a night gown looking at me from the hallway and then when I'd spot her she'd turn away and walk down the hall towards the back of the house. I used to sit on the lounge scared silly just dying to run to mum's room but to do that I would have had to go down the hall. Anyway as I got older (and braver) if I ever spotted her I would try to see where she went but whenever I'd reach the hall I would just see her night gown whip around the corner and she'd be gone

The other thing that has happened started when we all moved into the house we're in now, it's a newer house in a town we have no history in at all which we only moved to last year but sometimes when I first step in the front door I instantly smell my great grandmother who died in 2004. I normally walk in and take a few steps before realising what I have smelt but then when I try and step back to the doorway to get the smell again it's already gone Frown

I've seen a few things over the years. I'll share the shortest, and least frightening. I was at the Menger Hotel (pretty well known for being haunted in Texas). I was there for a friends wedding and I forgot something in our room so I left the group to go get it. On my way back down the hallway I saw a guy walking towards me in a suit, which I thought was weird because it was like 1pm on a Saturday. Then he quickly turned, and I thought he turned down a hallway (since he didn't pull a key out and open a door). As I walked by where he was, I realized there was no hallway or door there, he had vanished into a wall.
