I'm not engaged, but I have been in a bit of a predicament with getting "the" ring. I really want an amora gem in a setting I love, but amora gem's not available yet. So the plan is to get the ring with a sapphire, and reset it with an amora when amora comes out. This way I at least have "the ring", just not "the rock". SO's cool with it.
The first time FI proposed 2 me was without a ring but it came from the heart. We've been living together for almost 3 yrs at the time and it was the right time for him but he didnt have the funds at the time. I didnt judge him for it. When I told my mom she was just as happy. She actually gave me her wedding ring until he was able to afford to buy mine. You and FI do what you feel. There is no wrong or right answer or no wrong or right way to do things when it comes to love.

My husband decided a few years ago to go back to school, so he quit working and went to school full time. he made this decision before the market crashed, and we didn't think that finding a new job would ever be an issue... anyways, I digress.
He couldn't afford an engagement ring, but desperately wanted to be engaged.
This is what he got me & I wore it until the wedding.
A Three stone CZ ring in Sterling. And I wore the H#LL out of it...
After the wedding, I just wore my wedding band. A few months before our first anniversary, we were in a better position, so we thought we would start looking for a bargain... little did we know that we would happen upon one so quickly.
We were able to get my ring on ebay for 75% less than the store price. And here is my set now...
My husband really loved the three stone look, so that's what we were in the market for. It turned out perfectly for us!
I love your ring, I am partial to blue :) And wish you the best of luck - whatever path you choose! There is no shame in waiting until you can afford something to buy it... in fact, it's better in the long run than charging it to a credit card & paying loads more in interest!
@MissTiger: That is BEAUTIFUL! I love blue topaz (I'm a December baby).
Also, I had a ring like this! He called it my "I promise to get you a real one when we have some money" ring, haha. We both really wanted me to be wearing a ring on my finger, but it just wasn't in the financial cards so I ended up with this beauty which I now wear on my right hand! We got it half price at a kiosk in the mall for 15 bucks and I still love it. :)
ME ME ME!! I didn't want a ring, FI wanted me to have one, etc. He proposed without one, as requested, and I couldn't have been happier. He had second thoughts, and we decided I would get a CZ ring now, and later on when we're in a better spot I can get a new one. Or not, if I decide just be a wedding band only bride. It stopped the questions / rude comments people made about him or to him about being cheap (even when they KNEW I specifically asked NOT to have one) and he felt better about it, so I was happy. And, funnily enough, now that I have a ring, I've pretty much decided that I absolutely want an upgrade ring down the road, probably an Amora or an Asha depending on the style I *finally* decide on. Here she is! I wear her every single day, all day, I only take her off when I'm doing messy things (cleaning, cooking, etc.), showering and bedtime.
I had a temporary ring that I wear now on my right hand. Our reason was because the engagement was spur of the moment and after he asked he wanted me to have a ring right away. So we went to a local jewelry store and picked out a sapphire and diamond ring that was on sale and already in my size, for a really reasonable price and then picked out my permanent ring about a week later. I got to wear it for a couple of months as my engagement ring though, since we had to put the other one on layaway.

I would have been fine with whatever FI picked out for me but he preferred I picked it out myself. The proposal was a complete surprise, just the way I always wanted, so he proposed with a dummy ring and we picked out my ring the next day!

What do you think about it? Does anyone else have one or have you had one? My FI wanted so bad to put a ring on my finger but the ones we are looking at are on the pricey side so we are gonna have to save up for the real thing so we agreed on getting a lower end ring that I like for now, it is growing on me everyday I wear it. It is a Blue topaz with lab created white sapphires, part of me has grown on it so much that I thought about getting it copied with little diamonds instead (just a thought for now)
