Well, I finally got engaged : )
My fiance proposed with a CZ ring because he plans to let me pick out my own ring. We’re not in a super big rush to get married, and it will probably be a few months before we even go look at my “official” ring, although, I wouldn’t care if I never got a real diamond.
How many of you had a place holder ring? And how long did you have it before you got your real ring?

I didn’t have a placeholder, but he didn’t propose with a ring. He asked if I wanted to get married, then we looked at rings and ordered one. We didn’t tell anybody we were engaged until the ring came in (only a couple weeks).

My Fi proposed with a sweet and meaningful little ring – he is very traditional and could not imagine proposing without a ring of some kind. The gold came from my home town (the center of Australia’s gold mining industry) and the blue tourmaline came from a now abandoned mining town that my great-grandmother grew up in. I was so impressed with his creativity and thoughtfulness!
I wore it for 3 months until the ring of my choice was made ready. Now I have a ring on each hand, I have my ‘something blue’, and I love both equally 🙂

I had a place holder ring. It didn’t even cross my mind that that’s what it was until after I said yes and he said he wanted to go with me to pick out my real ring later. So now I interchange them and usually wear my first ring to work since he’s not too keen on me wearing his grandmother’s diamond to my job at a group home. We got engaged in May of 2009 and we got my official ring in August of 2009 so it wasn’t too long. And he told me it made him feel better to know that the proposal was a surprise but that I still got to pick out the ring that I will wear forever with my wedding band.

My wife also proposed with a sweet and meaningful ring, since she knew that I had my great-grandmother’s wedding ring and that I would want to have it re-set for an engagement ring. My initial ring was so sentimental and sweet (a band engraved with the way we write ‘I love you’ to each other) and I also love that I have a ring to wear in ‘inclement’ situations where I wouldn’t want to wear my engagement ring.
Actually, soon after the proposal, I forgot my first engagement ring when we went on vacation to Disney World, and so we bought this big blue rhinestone Mickey ring for me to wear because my hand felt so odd without a ring, so now we joke that I have a collection of engagement rings.

My fiance proposed with a cz ring and it was about a year before I got a diamond. I love both of them though and would have actually been happy with the cz, but he really wanted to give me the diamond lol.
