Hi Bees! I need some advice. Our outdoor wedding reception was slightly interupted by Hurricane Isaac. Luckily, we had a backup venue but still needed to rent a tent for additional space b/c the barn where it was held wasn’t going to be large enough. So, I spoke with the vendor off and on throughout the week prior to wedding to decide on how we would handle things, etc. They let me wait until Friday morning to make the final call on putting tent outside as planned or using the barn plus a tent. I decided to go with the barn b/c of the rain uncertainty. I spoke with the vendor and we threw around a few ideas of how we would set the barn up. They asked for a credit card that could be used to bill for the tents, etc. and I gave them one. I also told them that before they set anything up or went out, I needed to know an approximate cost on how much everything would be. They agreed and said they would call me back once they talked to the caterer to find out how many tables she needed. We spoke with the caterer on three way and got that settled. Then…I never heard back from them. Being a busy bride, I had a million things to do the day before my wedding and I went about getting those things done. Mid-afternoon I received a call from the friend whose barn we were using saying that the tent company was out there to start setting up. I didn’t think much about it at the time. Wedding came and went. As we were about to get on the plane for honeymoon, my fiance says, the tent company charged us $4,000 on my credit card. I had NOOOO idea it would be this much b/c I had never heard back from them and had no signed agreement, credit card slip, etc. So, I emailed tent company when we got back asking for a breakdown of costs and they have provided me one. They charged us over $500 to set up tables which I NEVER would have agreed to b/c we had so much family and friends around that could have done that. They also provided a larger tent than we had discussed on the phone, more tables than we discussed/needed. So, now my fiance is upset at the charges and I don’t know what to do. I don’t mind paying for some of it b/c we did use the tent and tables/chairs but I have no signed agreement saying at all with the company. Are we just out of luck on this? What should I do? I don’t want fiance upset with me b/c I was the one dealing with the vendor but I don’t know if we have any recourse at this point since a service was provided and used.
