Its not finalized yet, but I believe we will be having a separate catering tent for the main meal and also setting up hors d'eouvres as well as self-serve bar in the catering tent. Ours is a very self-service style reception, we're just planning on laying all the spreads out on tables and having people help themselves. Friends will take turns supervising the bar to make sure no youngsters try to pull anything, but drinks are going to be serve yourself, too.
Don't know if that helped?
Our cocktail hour won't be held under the tent (it's actually a pavillion, but I figured that's about the same.) They will be doing it somewhere between the ceremony site and the "tent" on a grassy lawn.
Hi,
When we were planning a tented reception my thought on Cocktail Hour is that it will be indoors mainly bc we are planning a August wedding. Therefore I firgured outdoor ceremony, move guests indoor for cocktail hour (outside of the heat into AC to cool down for a bit and give caterers more set up time for the reception) then back outside for the tented reception. Do you have some place indoors for your site?
I've been to a wedding that had it outside on a patio before a tented dinner and dance. I've also been to a wedding that had it inside then back outside for dinner. What kind of space are you working with? Would it be possible to move inside? Maybe a break from the heat? Or is their a patio or deck or some small area at the venue that you could use for cocktails?
thanks for the input and ideas, ladies! unfortunately, i don't think i have access to any sort of indoors space for the cocktail hour, there is a chapel for the ceremony if it rains but we can't have food or drink in there...I guess i will just have to put a deposit on another smaller tent for the cocktail hour in case it rains...any other ideas/suggestions or experiences with this?
We're having an outdoor wedding with tents but not everything is going to be underneath one. For our cocktail hour we're just going to let people wander around the reception area and not worry about having a separate space.

Hi chicas-
For anyone who had or is having an outdoor tented reception, what are you doing for the cocktail hour? Is/was it just outside next to the tent or did you have a separate tent for it or was it included under the big tent or something completely different?
I'm having an outdoor ceremony (weather permitting) and a tented reception but am somewhat stumped about the cocktail hour. If it's nice weather out, than I'll just have it set up outside next to the tent but if it rains.....????
Any ideas, suggestions or advice based on what you did or are planning to do or have seen from other weddings would be SO greatly appreciated!
