At a wedding I was in, the church coordinator was particularly brusque. She yelled at us all multiple times during the rehearsal and at one point during the ceremony, went up to the alter to direct the mothers in the lighting of the unity candle! Luckily, the rest of the wedding was perfect and gorgeous, so the happy couple chose to focus on other things.

why does it always seem to be this way? i was lucky that mine was great! but my sister in law had a terrible wedding director – everyone hated her….she came running in the bridal room asking the bride why the groom wasnt here yet and where is he? way to freak a girl out! seriously…come ask one of us or someone else. do NOT be scaring the bride that way.

My SO’s sister just got married and I was a BM… The coordinator at the chruch was horrible! From day one, she was uncooperative and rude. The day of the rehearsal felt like she had no clue what was going on and it was so disorganized. They paid a good bit of money to have it at the church and it didnt not go smoothly…. They had the MOH sign the certificate in the wrong place and now there are arrows all over it… not great…

@JackieDe: Oh definitely. It’s crazy when these people take their jobs way too seriously. The one I was talking about at the end of everything mentioned that she was a volunteer and just loves to see all the happy couples, and we were all WHA…? because she was such a biotch the whole time.

We chose to go with a different church for this reason! I wanted a church that would let my pastor from IA come up to officiate (I mean, we’re Lutherans, we’re pretty laid back!) but the church Mr.ND’s folks attend were not having it. It was $$$ to be there, the organist picked your song, they assigned you the pastor and then maybe that one would let mine help, no flash photog, no projected pictures, no recorded music, etc, etc. I swear, just discussing this over the phone made me say noooooo way.

Thankfully we checked out a friend’s church on a whim, having no connection other than friends that attend (aren’t even members) and were more than welcomed, the pastor said he’d gladly just help out mine with where things are and all that, no need to include him, and they don’t have a coordinator (which seems to be a bonus after hearing these stories!).

Thanks for encouraging brides to stick up for themselves! If your vendor/church/whoever isn’t treating you nicely, then take your time and money elsewhere.

My best friend got married in 2009 at our home parish in NJ, but they flew in their priest from Montana because they had become very close. The head priest at our church in NJ maybe felt a little put out, and was a bit of a jerk about it – like when we were standing in the lobby just before we all went down the aisle, he just goes, “is THIS how you’re going to be WALKING IN???” like in a “holy crap you are such stupid kids” voice. We were like… ummm no. but there are three of us and this is a huge lobby and we know when to walk.

but what is really horrible is that – I kid you not – the priest was stabbed to death in the rectory a few months later. not even joking. So I feel horrible saying mean things but it’s really unfortunate that my only memory of this priest were of him being a jerk to us on my friend’s wedding day.
