    Hello,

Has anyone been to Thailand?  We are really considering honeymooning in Thailand.  We are trying to incorporate lazying around on a beach and seeing something new!  If you have been I would love to hear your thoughts.

Its freaking gorgeous, the people are great, the food is amazing. I highly recommend Thailand. Phuket is the most touristy of all of the areas.

My only real advice is to not expect a ton from Bangkok, especially if you aren't used to crazy cities. Get out of town pretty fast if all you want to do is relax.

We are going to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam for our honeymoon - so I am probably a bit biased. I say, go for it!

I was in Thailand for a month and LOVED it, i have acutally been debating going their for our honeymoon so hubby can see it.

Like someone else mentioned...dont hang out in Bnagkok too much,, it smells and its just a city. Stick to Phuket, which is an amazing oasis of beaches and shopping and amazing hotels for cheap.

Also i spent time on Phi Phi http://www.phuket.com/island/phiphi.htm which was amazing..and truly a paradise :)

Here are some pics from my trip:

I've been to Bangkok, Chang Mai and Phuket. It was by far the best vacation I've ever been on. I wish I could convice FI to go there on our honeymoon, but taking a 18 hour flight was a non-negotiable 'absolute no'. Phuket is absolutely beautiful and actually inexpensive! The biggest cost is the flight which is probably around $1K.

Thanks for all the feedback ladies!  I think it's like 99.9% sure we are going there.  Now I just have to figure out where to go.  I have only heard great things!

I spent 3 weeks in Phuket.  It is amazing! I wish we could do our HM there but we are getting married in July - Thailand's winter.

I also took the ferry to the Phi Phi islands and spent a few nights there.  Simply gorgeous!  You will surely have a wonderful time.

Thailand is AMAZING! I've been three times and would go millions of times more.

You either love or hate Bangkok but I love it, it's got loads of historic attractions to see, a great atmosphere, gorgeous street food and the floating market is awesome.

Koh Samet is beautiful; white silky beaches and not far from Bangkok. Chiang Mai is brilliant for trekking to the hill tribe villages, bamboo rafting and night markets.

Koh Tao is great for diving, Koh Phi Phi is lovely and you can camp on the beach where The Beach was filmed - excellent snorkeling there too - Koh Phangan, for all its party reputation, is really beautiful and Koh Chang is really chilled out - lots of cheap, beachside huts. Krabi is also very nice.

If you don't go with a strict plan, you'll meet loads of backpackers who will give you advice on where to go.

Actually the one place I haven't been is Phuket - I was always warned off it because of the tourism.

    Hope that helps a bit!

We stayed in Koh Phi Phi - it's an hour ferry ride from Phuket and it's BRILLIANT!!! I'd say don't honeymoon there - move there and never come back.

Thailand is beautiful and Phuket is relatively inexpensive. Just make sure you are planning to stay long enough to get used to the jetlag if you will have it (10 days being ideal). I'd recommend heading up to Chang Mai as well.

We're going too! Has anybody been to Krabi?  There's a new Ritz there that we're thinking of staying at since you can use Marriott Points.

The NY Times just ran an article about Phuket in the Sunday Travel section.  I didn't read it, but here is the link.  I hope it helps!

@cakegal-  That's funny; I hadn't even noticed!  The Ritz looks great, I'm just a little nervous about it since it just opened in December.

I have friends who work for the Ritz, I will see if I can get any info.

We were considering the new Banyan Tree in Samui, but it keeps getting delayed and is still not open.

Wow, that's exciting! I've always wanted to go to Thailand! I flew over it last year and it was stunning from the air! Didn't help my itching to go!

Be sure to let us know how it goes!

Can you guys expand a bit on costs? Everyone says Thailand is so cheap to travel to, but how cheap? Aside from the flight, how much would a 10 day trip cost for 2 if you wanted to see 4 or 5 different areas and where would the best places be to go?

How easy is it to get around if you don't speak the language? Is it better to go with a tourist company?

I'm REALLY interested in travelling Southeast Asia, especially Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, etc but don't know how to get around the language barrier! This is one of my bucket-list trips but a Thailand honeymoon would be AMAZING!!
