Thank God for this Post!

Hi Everyone, Like many of you, I too will be a destination bride. We live in New Jersey but are getting married at Blithewold Mansion in Bristol, RI, where we met and lived for several years. I have the venue (obviously) and the caterer, photographer and most importantly my dress, but am looking for suggestions for a florist and DJ. I am going to attempt some DIY projects, in fact my gocco was delivered yesterday from Japan. I have yet to open the box because, quite frankly, I am scared. Lets just say, I'm not what you would call "crafty." But, I am going to give it a shot and if I fail miserably, back to ebay it goes! That being said, budget is obviously a concern, so I would love to find a florist who is creative and understands that I don't want to blow my budget on flowers. I look forward to talking with all of you while we all plan our big shows!

Hi Kgiles!  I LOVE my florist, and she is VERY reasonable about working within your budget.  You basically tell her your budget, and she keeps you in line with it (ie if you want something that will put you over, she'll make sure you know that and ask your permission first).  Her name is Tricia of Laurel Lane Floral (http://www.laurellanefloraldesign.com/flash_bridal.php)  She's a cute little British lady, so I love talking to her :)

I also looked at Stoneblossom (http://www.stoneblossom.com/ri07.html) and the ever popular Semia (http://www.flowersbysemia.com/).  Semia is great, but she's way over our budget.  Stoneblossom is also good, but can be a little pricey as well.

Hope this helps!  BTW, LOVE Blithewold!  We're having our ceremony at St. Mary's in Bristol, which is just down the street from Blithewold.  What's your date?

Thanks for the input! Semia is beautiful and yes, also out of our budget. We are planning on getting married at St. Mary's but are deciding between having a ceremony at the church or at the mansion, we need to make a decision soon. Our date is May 17, 2009. Where is your reception going to be?

Wow, 2 days after mine!  Ours is May 15, 2009.  Our reception is at Belle Mer in newport.  I love St. Mary's but it is very ... pink.  I'm hoping that it doesn't look so pink in the pictures, though.  Beyond that, the altar is gorgeous, especially that huge marble structure.  They seem to be very laid back too (which is unusual for a Catholic church).  Plus, it was a lot cheaper than a lot of the other churches we looked at.

Is there a Catholic chapel at Blithewold?  Or would you just not have a Catholic ceremony if you had it at the mansion?

Hi Kgiles.

I wrote about our florist, Jeremy, here: http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/06/29/out-of-my-hands/

I also wrote back to someone else's post and said this:

I HIGHLY recommend Jeremy Giroux with Check the Florist.  I made my centerpieces, so we only had to purchase my bouquet, the mother's nose gays, the bridesmaids bouquets and the guys boutenniers plus 8 hydrangea rounds for the cones we put on our chairs.  Total cost: around $250 and the flowers were AMAZING!!  He is super great to work with and totally 'gets' it.

His email is: <font size="2" color="#99cc00">jmg91780 (at) aol (dot)com</font>

Let him know Mrs Corn from weddingbee sent you.

PS - hey may not know who 'Mrs Corn' is so don't let that throw you.  Just mention that our wedding was last September at Fort Adams State Park in Newport and that should jog his memory.
